has any one used the late model crown vic front suspension( hole cross member and all) in a 88-97 2wd ranger to get rid of the factor style suspension

Pretty sure it's too wide. Folks use it for the full size trucks.

A quick googling shows the CVPI track width being around 63 inches. Don't know about the squarebody rangers, but 93+ Rangers have a track of 58.5 inches in the front. If anything, the squarebody trucks may be a bit narrower than that, so the CVPI swap would probably be 5-6 inches wider than your current front suspension.

If you want to ditch the ibeams, and switch to control arms, you can try 98+ Ranger 2wd clips, 90's toyota truck clips, or Mustang II clips. The bagged guys do clip swaps quite a bit, and those are the 3 most common donors.

Or, AJE just started selling a bolt-on kit to use a foxbody mustang k-member setup in i-beam Rangers. I don't see it listed on their website yet, but I've seen it on their facebook page. Looks nice, and supposedly takes a couple hundred pounds out of the front end. Also allows you to easily use anything (suspension/brakes/coilovers/bearings/rack and pinion steering/etc) from the massive Mustang aftermarket. Here's their website with contact info: http://www.ajeracing.com/

From my research, 83-97 frames are similar in build, which leads me to believe they are the same. People do cab/frame swaps with no frame mods.

Can you share a link to thier fb article on it? I know that suspension well since ive built numerous fox bodies

Well if i can get the aje kit reasonably ill bo that route

There isnt a single post with all of the info and pics, so you'll have to dig around to see more, but this should get you started: https://www.facebook.com/AJESuspension/posts/10152540775956817

Looks like $1900 for the k-member, strut towers, tower brace, lower control arms, and coilovers. More for spindles, brakes, and rack and pinion steering kits.

I have seen people section the CV front suspension also.

I'm thinking of doing one of these swaps myself, I would like to know how the stock 98-up ranger stuff really is compared to let say the CV stuff or stang2 stuff.
