Has anyone fabbed up mid frame crossmembers? I am having problems finding any in Eastern Canada.....land of rust. I have a 98 ext cab 4x4 and the 3 that are above (the gas tank, rwear can and tranny) are is baaaddd shape. Any ideas?

thanks,

John

I've made one for the transmission, but the other two I have not.

I'm sure you could figure something out if you had the box removed.

Post some pics, it would help.

Well...........

I've got one of those crossmembers in my scrap container that I removed from my 99, and replaced it with supports made by "IRON RANGER".

HELLUVA fabricator & welder!!!:icon_thumby:

I can dig it out tomorrow and give some measurements if ya wantem?

chvl,
The measurements would be great, if they are for the fabbed ones...do you have a pic of the one's Iron Ranger fabbed? I wasn't sure about having them fabbed due to the one that hugs the inside of the gas tank on the top, but if I had straps fabbed at the same time it should work. I go the bed off, next step is to remove the gas tank...if I Have to...I just don't feel comfortable grinding around it...thanks a bunch

Reckon I better clarify:icon_twisted:

I eliminated that crossmember as it was in my way of doin the mod I have done. My tank will be removed, as I will be runnin a fuel cell.

The brackets IRON RANGER made me were constructed between the two of us makin suggestions, and these are what we decided on for my particular build:

These go verticle inside the frame where the front & rear frame sections overlap, and they added strength to the mounts he made so I could put my springs under the frame for my narrowed 8.8 & 15.5" wide tires.

The front spring mount you see in the above pic was also fabricated by IRON RANGER:icon_cheers:.

I will dig out that crossmember and get ya some measurements sometime today!:icon_thumby:

Ahh, I see...so what are the measurements of the bracket in the first pic? That might work, if I can save the top part of my crossmember and weld to it. I think that is a great help. Fabbing up parts is fun, but it's great to get ideas on how others handled similar issues.
