What year of crossmembers will fit a 1986 Ford Ranger, standard cab?

You can make them all fit. I like to replace the dog bone style with the once piece style that I have found on a lot of gen 2 rangers

I'm using the one piece off of an early explorer. I think that's the way to go, gets rid of the bushings.

I just acquired an 86 Ranger that I'm planning on dropping a V8 into, and its missing the cross member.

Just build your own. Then you can set it where ever you want and yet the trans at what ever height you want.

That is an option. I was just curious what everyone else on here uses.

I've got a 9" rear end, 4.10 limited slip, in a local shop cutting it down to fit now, and I'm undecided about whether to use a 5.0 or a 5.8 engine I got in another deal.

Oh very nice! That's a choice you'll have to make. The 5.0 is smaller so less modifying will be needed. You'll be able to keep AC if you want it and the steering box won't need to be moved. I'm still playing with the idea of going to a steering box that mounts on the outside of the frame to allow lowering of the engine another inch or so.

On the Explorer cross-member, you need the one out of a Gen1 Explorer, 1991-1994

You MAY need to drill a hole in the bottom flange of the drivers side frame rail, as the drivers-side of the cross-member mounts with a single bolt and nut on that side.

On the passenger side it mounts on the triangle of holes currently occupied by the
rivets that hold the bracket for the "Dog bone" cross-member you currently have.

I personally made this retrofit on my '87 Supercab back around 1998.
