88 BII with a 2.9. The idle is very inconsistant ranging from 800-1200 rpm... When I took it for a drive this wknd everytime I'd push the clutch in the idle would skyrocket to 2500 RPM until I stabbed the throttle. It then would go back its "normal" idle.... What is going on???

Start by pulling codes. Probably have a vacuum leak or bad sensor. You are going to have to start a process of elimination to find the problem(s).

Mine does the same thing, its a sticky IAC.

Shoot some WD-40 in both sides of the IAC and on the end of the throttle cable, should help a little.

Idle Air Control valve.

Cylinder looking thingy (yes, that's a technical term) bolted to the passenger side of the throttle body.

Yours is gonna look slightly different, but thats about the same basic unit.

Thanks man. Gonna need it to hold a steady idle to pass emmissions. Hope thats all it is!
