Crawlin's Build Thread

Nice work. You did you shifters pretty much exactly like I did. lol

I looked at Kirby's and your setup before I put it together.

Stock T case 1354 E

Doubler in, did some cutting and hammering on the floor, took out enough to work with no body lift.

Then I put together a rear T case support out of 1.5" tube, a DOM bushing and some 1/4" plate.

Only bad thing I see about the rear support like that is its going to limit all the twist in the drivetrain. The motor is still going to try to twist up but the rear support is going to try to stop it with the stiff poly bushing and put a lot of stress on the doubler box and trans tail housing.

What my badass big block 2.9l? lol. I figure the bushing will flex with the twisting motion and will be better than any type of rigid mount. I see your point but I dont see it as something that will cause major issues. I have seen several setups similar to this that have been running for years and no catastrophic failures on them. How you would have done it differently? I suppose I could run an additional bushing at each end of the frame as well to allow for a little more wiggle room. But that point I dont really know how much support it will really be offering. When I get my rig rolling I will keep an eye on it and make any changes if necessary.

Re-worked my bender stand, still manual but now much stronger, and level.

Also I ran 25ft of 6 ga cable and wired up the garage for 220v power with a 50 amp breaker, this was pretty easy actually, should have done it a while ago.

Going to shave the 14 bolt today.

What are you guys on tons doing for brakes? I will be running the stock 60 dual piston calipers up front and chevy 1/2 ton discs or caddy brakes in the rear. Anything that bolts right in from the junkyard would be nice, will I need a new MC, booster? I would like to have an e brake, might end up building one off the t case.

There is a guy that sells a kit on a local forum for bolt on discs on 1ton rears. Real nice kit and is around 300 shipped I believe.

Ill probably get a disc kit from Gubni rather than chasing down parts. I am mostly just concerned about the rest of the brake system being adaquate enough to run these larger calipers up front.

got a link to the kit you described?

Nothing too extreme, gained 3/4" clearance and smoothed the lip down enough to slide over rocks. Left about .125" beneath the bottom hole, I could cut more but I really dont want it to leak.

Looking good.

Are you swapping in the 4.0 from the other truck?

The 4.0 makes some pretty good torque....I would be concerned with the mount being too stiff.....I would have used a rubber bushing. They wear out, but cause less stress on the aluminum cases...

I used some poly mounts on the tranny on my starion.....cracked the case on my tranny. Of course, that was with 300ft/lbs...

But...I'm sure it'll work fine, and I'm sure you let us know. :icon_thumby:

Yes, I still plan on swapping the 4.0, I will look for a rubber bushing to fit what Ive built, Seems like that would be a real cheap and easy fix, better off safe than sorry.

I have been wanting a set of these for quite a while now, I needed to get some 8 lug wheels and I wanted them to be beadlocks... so I finally snagged a set of recentered Military HumVee 8 bolt double beadlocks from TrailWorthyFab. These things are beef, a little pricey on a budget but not bad when you price other single beadlocks on the market and after months of searching I didnt find any deals on the local boards or craigslist so...I pulled the trigger,

I went with the half rings and pvc inserts to save a bit of weight, and chose to paint them my self rather than pay for powdercoating to keep the price reasonable. I picked them up at the freight dock and came home and broke them down and started to clean all the weld slag, dirt, oil and rust. One of them is now clean and primed and ready for paint, I just need to decide on color and then finish the rest....Got some grooved 37" takeoffs to go with them. They arent the 42s I wanted but will be much more suited for driving it to the trail and back, and only cost a fraction of the price.

I am still waiting on a few other things but I slid the axle up and underneath the truck for measuring, etc. I should have it on its own weight again very soon.
