i love aussie lockers but come on.. i was spending other peoples money and went big!

If you have to ask, you probably need to do a little more research.

There is a lot of good information on Pirate I would read a lot and type very little. They seem to enjoy mocking ignorance and figure your wasting your time without a five digit budget.

oh yes.. this.. they don't understand that some people don't know everything and cannot afford the best of the best of the BEST..

but lots and lots and lots of good tech. i love just reading a lot of it.

i'm not bashing pirate, i just don't care to speak on there..

ya pirate can get pretty intense at flaming, thats why i read only. here we seem to be alot more forgiving, however, you def need to do some research to find out what YOU want. alot of guys go straight to the SAS idea. however, TTB can be every effective, however it takes some research to get it right, and some outside of the box thinking. the list is endless of what can be done. from there its all up to what you want and can afford to do!

either way, there are some very well built rigs here, don't focus only on b2's either, alot of my inspiration came from toyota's, full size fords, and even a chevy or two (go ahead and laugh. haha)

the ranger/b2/explorer are all RBV's (ranger bases vehicles) most of all the mods you can do one one, can be done on another. i.e., dana 35's. 8.8. lift kits. etc.

oh, i was talking to a good friend the other day that just got back from the ruby. he mentioned that alot of the problems he saw with running a b2 was the wheelbase being so short. keep in mind i haven't done it so i can't say so, but its a factor to think about no matter what your building or trying to accomplish

stretching is not a bad idea if you're gonna do tons!!!

and ttb can be effective like stated above don't let anyone tell you otherwise. i want the sas b/c its simple and easy after the swap is finished everything is easy. but ttb can be amazing. ttb is easier swap but a little more work to set up to make work right.

the real question here is what tire size are you wanting? and how serious? what kind of trails? do you want TTB or SAS'ed?
even if you stay ttb you need to swap out the 7.5/d28 for the 8.8/d35

Once this question is answered, you will know where to go from there. Back in 2005 I ran the Con on 32's and a 3" Duff lift with a D35/8.8 Combo, 4.88's with a rear lockrite and a t-case doubler. In 2007 I ran the Dusey Ershim which is arguably harder than the Con with the same setup except some fender trimming and upgraded to 35's. My rig is now setup to run trails such as the ones on the Ultimate Adventure or more local for me, the Johnson Valley Hammers. I have upgraded to a 4.0, full width 8.8 and D44 packed with all the chromo goodies, lockrites and the same 4.88's and some beadlocks. It performs very well and I am very happy with her. The only major change I would like to do is a wheelbase stretch.

That all being said, if I had it all to do over again, I might of done it a bit different. If I was to build a RBV from scratch again, I would go one of two ways. 1) Unimog 406 Portals, 40" tires and a 3 link/4link combo. 2) OR Use a full width TTB D44 with the new steering TTB setups like seen on prerunners and KOH rigs, Coilovers and a 4 link rear with coilovers and some 38" or larger tires.

Seeing the new TTB stuff the KOH guys are doing for example really has me interested in that setup. :icon_thumby:

i am looking to get pretty serious. i dont know if anyone has heard of the rubicon but im looking to build a truck that can put it to shame

I ran Rubicon before they blew it all up, Dusy/Ershim (twice now), Swamp Lake trail, and many others of similar caliber without any struggle running D35 & 8.8" axles, locked both ends on 35x12.50s (some pics of my setup here and on my Cardomain page--link in sig). I also am running a dual t-case (6.15:1 low range).

Rubicon has numerous options to make it as hard as you want though (Little Sluice, Soup Kitchen, and many others). If these optional runs are what you're after, then you're going to want at minimum a D60 front axle (or a rad-built D50 TTB if that's what you're after), 10.25" rear, and 40" or bigger tires with about 6-8" of lift and trim the fenders.

What springs you run makes a huge difference no matter what the axles. Avoid stiff TTB liftkit coils like the plague if you want any articulation (I have Cherokee XJ coils under the front of mine. Early Bronco coils are another option).

As for Pirate4x4, 4-digit budget builds are fully welcomed, as long as they're not candidates for the Hackjobs thread lol, but if your skin is thin, then like said... Beware.
