i am looking to get pretty serious. i dont know if anyone has heard of the rubicon but im looking to build a truck that can put it to shame
I ran Rubicon before they blew it all up, Dusy/Ershim (twice now), Swamp Lake trail, and many others of similar caliber without any struggle running D35 & 8.8" axles, locked both ends on 35x12.50s (some pics of my setup
here and on my Cardomain page--link in sig). I also am running a dual t-case (6.15:1 low range).
Rubicon has numerous options to make it as hard as you want though (Little Sluice, Soup Kitchen, and many others). If these optional runs are what you're after, then you're going to want at minimum a D60 front axle (or a rad-built D50 TTB if that's what you're after), 10.25" rear, and 40" or bigger tires with about 6-8" of lift and trim the fenders.
What springs you run makes a huge difference no matter what the axles. Avoid stiff TTB liftkit coils like the plague if you want any articulation (I have Cherokee XJ coils under the front of mine. Early Bronco coils are another option).
As for Pirate4x4, 4-digit budget builds are fully welcomed,
as long as they're not candidates for the
Hackjobs thread lol, but if your skin is thin, then like said... Beware.
