Ok so my stock exhaust was falling apart so I got a replacement tailpipe and new pipe from the y back. I never had a converter to begin with so I didn't put one one. Also replacement pipe doesn't have a resonator. I put a flowtech red hot glass pack on it and well it sounds like shit. It has a good tone to it but it kinda sounds like an exhaust leak comming out of the tip. There is no exhaust leaks but it sounds kinda like that. I did a straight pipe first and I figured a muffler would fix the sound, but it didn't. Its only there when u stomp it or its under load. Would a resonator fix this? I guess u would call it a raspy sound(kinda like when u blow hot breath on your hands when its cold. I like the tone of it and how loud it is but that wierd sound gets on my nerves. It sounds like billy bobs 82 chevy truck with strait pipes, like an exhaust leak comming from the exhaustlol

Also it didn't sound like that with the stock setup. Would a cat fix it? I've been wanting one anyways. Is walker or magnaflow cats worth a dam? I had no cats and glasspacks on my jeep and it didn't sound bad I don't get it.,

Get rid of the glasspack and get a real muffler like a magnaflow or flowmaster (I like the super44)

That's what I was thinkn, I really like the round magnaflows. But I'd be pissed if I dropped 70 bux and it didn't help any. I don't really like the flows, seems like everyone has em, and they have that tin can sound to em. The hooker aero chambers sound pretty good. Think a new muff will get rid of those shitty frequencys? Ill try to post a sound clip up if I can

Is there a sound difference btween the round and oval magnaflows? Anyone heard the edelbrock sdt? Iwant a center inlet and outlet so I don't have to change things up, what does muffler length have to do with sound?

i like the summit racing brand mufflers.. and they are cheap..
or the cherry bomb turbo or whatever that $30 muffler is at the Zone...
if you wanna pay money, get magnaflow!

There is a pretty big difference between the round and oval magnaflows. my 3.0 ranger has an oval, and it is nice and quiet at idle but stays smooth all the way up the revs. The round ones are straight through style, i.e. no baffles, just a perforated tube inside of fiberglass inside of a bigger tube. but they stay smooth sounding even on the biggest motors

I have been told on here that the longer and bigger the muffler is, the deeper. And that usually that also makes it a bit quieter too. Idk, i think this might be more for glasspacks but it makes sense that it would be for all.

Just wait for someone that actually knows this stuff for sure to let you know if im right or completely f'ed in the head because its late and im tired. lol Good luck :icon_twisted:

Well I'm wanting something not overly loud but will sound good and have some sound to it when I stomp on it. Should I go with a magnaflow oval around 18-20"overall length? Will that do me better then a round one? I want it to be a little quieter then my glasspack, and not sound like shit. By listening to some vids online of glasspacks it seems as they all sound about thesame, and they all have that shitty sound I'm talkin about

Mine is an 18" magnaflow oval(their Cat-Back system). Like I said quiet at idle, quiet when cruising on the freeway, but step into it and it screams all the way to redline. great tone

But I have a 3.0

Cool, I guess I'm going with a 18" oval. Magnaflow, and summit got em in stock
