thanks, its one good use of my 2.9l intake tube, now that the 4.0l is up and running.my welder has a bad ground cable so i fought those birdshit welds all the way.
something you might find funny evan- i cut the sheet metal pieces from my 91 explorers door skin after mocking it up with card board first.
i want to make flapper doors for the factory duct and the cowl so i can close one or the other off.it pulls air from both right now which should be enough to keep water out and my explorer 4.0l free from water in most situations.
the antenna is in the stock spot with the air flowing right around the base of it.heres another pic

So your now pulling your air from the base of the antenna? Talk about a flow restriction. How are you keeping the water out?

its probably somewhat restictive but still isent much smaller than the factory pipe and i don't think rain water will flow in

EDIT:haha no it doesn't take its air from that tiny hole

I'll be interested in how it works! Keep us posted.

the antenna was removed to put the duct in and then it sits in the opening.
if you look in the cowl on that side the heater has only a raised collar to keep water out of the system and it seems to work pretty well.i posted another pic that shows the way the insideis shaped to have the opening facing up and at the same height as the heater opening.i think it would take some serious water to swamp that duct.
as far as the small nub of the antenna being a restiction-have you seen your factory duct lately? i made sure the cross section of the duct never gets too small.
i think as makg has pointed out you don't need a 3" duct since i don't plan on drag racing with the snorkle.the factory duct is still in place.i plan on flapper valves to select between sources.
