CRAP-hydrolocked

it is kind of odd about these motors filling #6 first.i got to looking and only #4(pass. front) isen't bent at all.1,2,and 5 are about 1/16-1/8" low.hell it turns over good now without the piston and rod, maybe i should pull the #6 pushrods and put it back together:3gears::icon_twisted:

evan were you using the factory intake in the grill when you got swamped?what have you guys come up with to avoid using that drinking straw ford calls a cold air duct?i was thinking i'de keep mine and put a slider where it goes to the air box.then run a duct to the cowl with a slider there also,so i can chose where my air is coming from.

At the time it was hydrolocked it had the stock intake thru the front grill. Now I have a duct fabbed up that draws air through the wiper cowl. Additionally I try not to drive through excessively deep water, and if I do I go easy on the engine so I don't get caught at 4 grand if water gets in.

it pissed me off because the water was only about two and a half feet deep and i've chugged my truck through water covering the tops of my 33's.i worked at a aircraft composites shop(carbon fiber, fiberglass) for a few years before working at the body shop so it should be easy to make the duct work.expensive lesson learned!

I wasn't the one who hydrolocked my truck, it was the guy I bought the truck from who did it. But he said that when he locked the engine the water was barely hub deep (with 31s). Must be something about that intake that allows water to spray right in at times even if it's not that deep.

2.9s are tough little engines.

Ive seen them smokin' knockin' screechin' whatever, and as long as you keep the temp under control they wont die.

Dustin

Ouch man that sucks. At least you have a souvenir now though....

Well today i did the same thing and my motor will NOT crank over . I have about a 300 dollar budget to figure it out and i am not sure that will be enough . my first trip out after tires and a pa 3in lift and i screw my truck .... any thoughts ?

I just tore off the tube that leads to the airbox. I had water up to the hood and no trouble. All you have to do is vent it somewhere so the engine doesn't vacuum seal to the surface of the water. Water is 800x heavier than air--your engine would much rather inject air because it's easier. You don't need all of that snorkel crap unless you are planning to go through water deep enough that you have to set the cruise and get on top with your lawn chair.

Pull all the plugs out and try turning it over manually (wrench on the crank pulley bolt). Shoot a little oil in each cylinder if it hits a rough spot and turn it back and forth until you get it all the way around one turn. Then leave the plugs out and crank it over. If it doesn't sound completely hosed, put the plugs back in and see if it will start.

Used engines: www.car-part.com. Great site.

When i said it wouldn't crank over i meant with a wrench or socket on the pulley
all 6 plugs are out of it and we can not get it to budge at all i put some oil in the plug holes and everything but the main problem is that there is no water in the oil or atleast there wasnt yesterday so i am thinking it's the same as some of these other guys who have sucked up water in their 2.9's hope not but what are you gonna do

Well if you sucked in water and it wont turn then pull her and tear it down and rebuild or get a “new” used engine.

It sucks I know.

i ran my intake into the cowl.watch out for the used motors most of them have cracked heads.try and get one from a 91-92 if you can they have better heads

91-92 all will bolt up correct .. plugs will plug into right things ?
