in the middle of doing timing belt on my 96 ranger 4x4 2.3L. im stuck at the crankshaft pulley bolt. cannot get the bolt loose. trying to determine if the bolt is reverse threaded, and if not any ideas on how to keep pulley from spinning. Thanks

You can put the truck into gear to prevent movement of the pulley. That is if you have a manual. I don't know about the bolt though.

thanks,
i used a method i read about earlier. the one using a breaker bar and resting it on the frame and turning starter for half second and it came loose on the first crank.

how did you get the pulley off afterwards? i was doing a water pump and thermostat on a 95 last month and i had to remove the plastic timing cover to access one of the bolts. the guys belt was cracked so i was going to change it but i didnt see any tapped holes to put a puller onto?

if its not the balancer type, a few short whacks with a rubber mallet, or non marring hammer will get it off

a steering wheel puller works the kind with three legs, not the kind that bolts in. Sometimes.

ok, thats the idea i got from the haynes manual since it gave no mention of using any type of puller. i just wasnt sure if it was a tapered shaft and it would be stuck on there? thanks guys
