I have a 87 ranger with a carbed 302 and AOD. It ran fine when I parked a year ago. Well Im trying to get it running again but im having an ignition issue. When starting the truck it wont get spark when cranking, but I noticed that I will get a single spark or to, when I let off the starter. Like if this truck where a manual, im pretty sure it would start with a pop start.

So what would cause the ignition circuit to get cut when trying to start?

Any help would be appreciated.

the power wire going to the coil isnt hot when cranking. but is in the on position. you need to find a hot thats live while cranking.

Run a wire from the "I" side of your starter solenoid to your positive (+) side of your ignition coil along with the power that is on it already. That will feed power to the coil when you are cranking and stop when you let off the crank position and the regular coil power will take over and keep the engine running. Problem solved.

you could bridge the starter solenoid with an old screwdriver to confirm thats the problem and see if it starts, then go from there and run the wire you need to, just an idea.
