Hello Guys,
I have a Ford ranger 2.8 with diesel engine, it uses the same configuration for axles, transfer case and suspension as the gas model. Currently i am experiencing a craking noise whenever i use my 4wd system.
The noise starts when going down hill, you can here it louder when using 4low howver it does it sometimes in 4 high. You can also hear the noise when doing tight cornerings.
We have already change the chain in the transfer and the cv joint on the front shaft, however the noise continue.
has anyone of you had similar experiences?
I apprecciate any comments.
Regards
Fernando

You WILL get whine from the gears in 4x4 hi OR low if you're going downhill at a higher rate of speed.

brinker 88. Is not really a wine, but a clank noise, just like if a wheel bearing gets stuck and the snap.

U joint in front drive shaft goin out???
Maybe..??..

Usually a bad U-joint will be heard all the time in one of these, with the live axle and all.

Even still, lets start by eliminating parts. Pop the front drive shaft out and throw it in 4x4 and see if the noise is still there. If it's gone, you can pretty well assume it is somewhere in the front, from the front axle to the bearings of the front drive in the T-case.

Hey guys, thanks so much for the quick answers.
So far we have changed: cv joint from front drive shaft, all u joint from both drive shaft, and transfer case chain.
I saw that the front wear moves when the noise goes, almost like if it would be something inside the front axle.
the noise is also there, even when the car is in neutral and i turn the wheel, i can even feel the car getting break.
I was thinking maybe the front axle cv joint? there is an inner and outter cv, we have never change them. Aldo , my mechanic said last time we changed the oil, we did not use synthetic. could this be the cause of the problem?
Greetings from panama
Fernando
