serpentine belt help?

My 94 ranger has a 4.0 out of a 92. Is the serpentine belt different for the 92 than the 94?

Shouldn't be. The only difference in belts is with AC and non AC trucks.

I just got back from Advance Auto and put the different belt on. For some reason the 92 belt was about 4 inches longer than the 94.

There is a different belt routing due to the difference in the
idler puller and belt tensioner used on the 1994.

I learned the hard way that you need to know your belt size before going into, Advance Auto Parts, Autozone, O'Reily's and such. I have a 2005 3.0 with A/C and what they had listed was too big. The non A/C belt worked. It really sucks when you live 40 miles from parts houses and get the wrong part for your project.

I carry a shiny new spare that has been test fitted onto my engine
folded into a gallon ziploc bag (along with a 3/8" swivel head ratchet)
behind the jumpseat in my cab.

when I go on a long roadtrip I not only carry that belt but another one in a bag (without a tool) in my spare parts bin (a milk crate) along with a spare alternator, starter, coil pack...

replaced belt and now won't start

I put a new belt on yesterday but the truck still won't crank. it's turning over but won't fire. It was running pretty well before the belt broke.
any ideas? what should i check first?

thanks for any help

If the belt BROKE check that it didn't knock the connector off
the crank pickup or dammage the wire to that sensor.

A mechanic from my church looked at the truck the other night. he was here for less than a minute and discovered that the belt DID damage this wire. The belt shredded to pieces when it broke and it ripped the crap out of the wires goin to the crank sensor.

thanks for the help everyone,

The engine is a 92 4.0. I already fixed the belt and put on a new tension pulley and im gonna try to fix the sensor problem tommorow. what do you think i'll have to do. Is this broken wire something i can just splice onto a new sensor? A guy that looked at it mentioned something about a wiring harness. I wouldn't have to replace a whole harness would I ?!?!?

thanks for the help

if you have wire left from your sensor connector, just splice it back in, if it broke at the sensor, just go to a u pull it or junk yard and get a pigtail, or run to your friendly neighborhood ford dealer, with connector in hand, and ask to see the parts counters connector book.

i need a picture of the crank sensor for a 92 4.0.

somebody pleaseeee help.

if you can't get a picture and you know about them, just describe it.

is it a metal "T" bracket? and how long is the pigtail?

thanks

haha.

im sure you do hate that. I gotta give to you though, you were right on go.
what would you suggest i do to fix it? right now there is a wire hanging down that got ripped off the sensor. i don't see a connector anywhere on the sensor.

The connector on that sensor is a "Bosch" connector the same style connector as is usually on injectors.

there is no "pigtail"
