I've replaced 3 heads on the right side(456) and also the head gasket has gone out twice. i only put 7000 miles and had nothing but problems with this 4.0. now after 1000 miles after i put a new head on , the head gasket is bad ,same side. ive replaced the waterpump,thermostats(6 of them) ,radiator, all the hoses and flushed the system out. any ideas?

Obvious question but...Hows the water jacketing on that side of the motor?

clean jackets

i flushed the system out before i put the new head on the first time. i've rebuilt several V8 before and haven't had this problem before.someone mentioned to pull a vacuum on the system and have it pull the fluid in cause some motors have air pockets and doesnt get fluid

Have you had the block checked to see if you're putting the head on a level surface?

yes i put a level and feeler guages on it and had only 0.015 clearance on the worst spot and it was between 4 and 5

OK, let me get this straight....

Your block deck and or head is 0.015" out? and you put it back together?

I'm thinking that your block deck is warped more than that...

I'm also thinking it's time to get a RUNNING engine from somewhere and resist the temptation to take the heads off for any reason.

Get some blue devil and put in it, on my b2 I had a cracked head, water in the oil, oil in the water, water in the exhaust and running down the block and it never overheated again, then it died from something electrical. Depends on how bad its leaking though, if all the water runs out in five minutes it probably won't work.

Maybe fill the crankcase with snake oil too.

i think i'm gunna just pull that motor out and either put a v8 in or another 4.0. I've spent alot of time and money on it. kinda tired of the same problem, heads are about 200 each and gasket sets are 150 with bolts, i guess i should have just bought a long block and had a warranty and the same money
