Hey Guys,

I'm looking for the cam synro alignment tool for a 99 3.0l if anyone has one and is willing to lend so I can install my new synro that would be great. I purchased the synro @ my local ford dealer and it doesnt come with that tool. I tried buying the synro @ NAPA and a few other local autoparts store but after getting the wrong synro 4 times I had no choice but to go to the dealer. I also found out the Dorman the manufacturer has recalled their entire stock and they have no substitute right now.

Any help would be great.

Have you checked to see if your local AP has one to rent? Im about to do my syncro and thats what I had planned on doing hopefully they have one, I have realized that schucks seems to have everything I need for my 2000 flex fuel napa gave me the wrong fuel filter 3 times and I came to find out they didn't even have the right one in the computer. Plus if you go to schucks online you can print out the page and take it in to them and you will get the online price without the wait. Is your syncro making noise? How did you know it was the wrong one, I only ask because gonna do mine and it would be good to know some of the signs.

My synro's not making any noise. The engine was missing when I was troubleshooting I found the senors was bad I tried to replace the senors but none available so I tried to replace the senors with one from a 96 3.0 I had but it was a 3 pin unit and the senors doesnt allow the rotor to spin the caps and rotors are different. But the 2 pin cap will allow the rotor on the 3 pin synro to spin, so I pulled the synro from my 99 when I noticed the teeth on the gears were almost gone. So I installed the 96 synro into the 99 engine so I could get the truck moved to free up my Charger. And then started the synro hunt... Its an easy change once you get the engine to TOP DEAD CENTER 2 cap bolts and a 10mm and the synro's out but u need the alignment tool. Thank god one guy in my local car quest parts store gave me the alignment tool. I now will shop there more.

Hope that helps

That does help quite a bit actually, what does the alingment tool do exactly I have heard that you can do it without the tool by marking things where they sit. So it just slides right out at TDC and back in the same way?

When I did mine, I didn't set TDC. I SHOULD have, but I didn't. What I did is mark in more than one place with a sharpie and then mark on the syncro so that I could pull it out and put it back in in the same place. It will come out if you take it loose in any position. The key is making sure it goes back in exactly the same way you took it out. The tool helps hold onto the flag to keep it from spinningwhen you're installing it. My Ford dealer let me borrow the tool when I did mine, but I didn't use it.

Thanks for the input guys, I got one and 15 mins later job completed truck runs better now
