We are restoring a 1987 ranger for my boy and he wants a cowl hood for it. Does anybody know of a steel scoop we can put onto his hood or anybody that makes cowl hoods for these trucks? Thank you

You could just make your own by cutting two lines in the hood, raising it up and filling in with metal.

Summit, jegs, etc. Have a billion different scoops.

Even CARiD does as well. They may even have a hood for it. They have in the past. Fiberglass though.

I had a bookmark before my hard drive crashed... someone was making a cowl induction hood for a first gen. But I can't remember who it was.

I remember LMC truck having one but I don’t remember what generation it was for. They might be worth a look.

If the back of the scoop is open engine compartment air will be drawn in through the vents.

Actually, cowl type hoods act like heat extractors. Even though the base of the window is a high pressure area, I guarantee the hot air coming out of the radiator, being pushed by forward movement, is higher pressure than the base of the window. I've tested it using the streamer method. Only time I've had a cowl hood that actually worked like they're supposed to was on a Firebird years ago. Had a Z28 scoop on the hood. When first installed, the streamers always flowed up the windshield. After fashioning a pan out of sheet metal that sat on top of the carburetor, with a velocity stack on top of that, and one inch thick foam around the edges of the pan. then it worked as an intake. Worked so well, I had to reinforce the scoop, as it kept puffing up at high speeds. Almost tore it off the hood.

Wish someone made a nice hood for the 98-00 models.

5tonFord,

I used an old Mach1 Mustang hood. I cut out the hood scoops and grafted them into a 1st Gen Ranger's hood. Because of the length differences, the scoops are raised past the rear hood line, as in a aft cowl induction system.
