Found a great deal on a cowl hood for the Stranger (my off-road project), but I'm wondering if I should pull the trigger... any thoughts?? Are there any performance gains to be had out of a 93 4.0?

Its like the ones found in LMC Truck catalog... I can't pull up a good picture on Google at the moment.

At high speed they can show slight performance gains, if your intake system is setup correctly.

On an off-road only rig with an FI setup, it will look cool.

It'll look badass! I'm gunna have to build another one since my rollover, I hate the way my truck looks now with a flat hood.

If I was to buy one it would come from www.carhoods.com they have a really nice one. (GT-41 series)

Thanks for the replies! I think I'll invest elsewhere on the truck for now... it needs a little tlc in the lift department before looks I think.

I love a cowl hood. Whether its on a car or a truck. I am going to put one on my stang and one on the bronco. A buddy of mine has a Cervini he is selling me for $400 bucks for the bronk.

The Cowl Hood will look good and if you cut some holes it will help reduce under hood heat buildup.

Hmm.... good points. The one for sale is (or possibly was...) $190. I still think I would rather throw down for an exhaust though. But its a good deal that doesn't come around much. I don't know, I'm indecisive.

My Ranger is going to be a pre-runner eventually, and I'm going to swap out for fiberglass parts, I found the hood for a round $300 bucks, I really don't think you'll see any performance change unless you do the other sections in fiberglass.

I definitely have the itch for a Prerunner, but for this truck my goal is medium duty wheeling/crawling and camping rig. At the moment its my daily driver so I am shooting for a bit of looks, 32s or 33s and 3" lift. I think that should put it where I want it for performance and driveability on the street. I am just debating on this hood since its a good deal and should make it look pretty sweet. I'm just looking for a little cool factor I spose. Worth cutting into lift and tire budget? Not sure...
