okay so i ditched my book shelf speakers and replaced them with factory size pioneers, but now i dont have the bass that i used too so i want to get a sub, just something to give it a lil kick, but nothing serious, even though tht 1000 watt rms badge is cool. but i will only have around 300 dollars at most, so i was thinking this pioneer sub from walmart lol. click here... and either this pioneer amp or this kenwood the ken wood amp is like 150 at best buy, the pioneer one is listed on there site as 220, but i found it on amazon for like 130, but idk about amazon i dont do alot of internt shopping...none... but i was just wondering what you think, and i would have to build a custom box that is going right between the to jump seats on the back wall so it doesnt cut into my floor space... comments, questions, insults, haiku?

I got really lucky when I decided to get a system, all bought off the net.

2 used 800 watt mono Audiobahn amps
1 used 600 watt Audiobahn 4 channel amp.
2 JVC dual voice coil 10's
6x8 Audiobahn components-4
Power Acoustik in-dash DVD

800w each to the tens, 150w each to the components

All 3 amps were $130 shipped
the 10's were $70. Buy one get one free.
6x8's $45. buy one get one free.
DVD player $100. shipped

So I have about $350 in my system, with over 2200 watts. The only thing I bought new were the speakers.

Shop around and check out some car audio forums, there are some good deals to be found.

That Kenwood amp looks pretty good, but the pioneer sub is crap. Only 150w RMS, it won't last long behind a good amp.

For the money though, it's hard to beat. I bought into the cheap route before, but by the time bought cheap ones and then upgraded I spent more than i would have if I would have gotten what i wanted the first time.

I'm not bashing your idea, I just don't want you to be disappointed.

i bought my sub and amp off of amazon... everything worked smoothly

want to buy a wiring kit that will be perfect for your set up?
i have one for sale, never been opened.

street wires brand, good quality. it's an 8g kit, that handles up to 350w if i recall correctly.
but don't hold me to that number.

it would be perfect for your set up, and i would rather sell it to a trs member than some crackhead on craigslist..

haha thanks but no thanks baxtej but this isnt going to happen tomorrow, more like end of summer, i have to get everything designed and still have to shop around for the amps and such, my next consideration would be this 10 b/c i made a mock up box for the 12 and it was huge, so im tryn to go smaller but i would love to have a 12 and dont wanna buy a shallow mount.
im also confused on how to buy an amp... the 10 i just mentiond has 350watts nominal, so is the kenwood enough to power it since it 200W RMS x 1 @ 4Ω

i've got that 600w kenwood amp you were looking at. i think i payed $140, and it's reasonable for what it is. especially in a small truck cab, i think you will be happy with it. i'm pushing 2 old kenwood subs with it, in the back hatch of my car. it's stable at 2Ω, so dont be afraid to run 2 subs, or a dual voice coil sub.

kunar, awesome, i really liked that one for some reason. but how do i get it to run at 2ohms? if i get a 4ohm sub? does it matter? or can i only run it at what the sub is rated?

it's set by the impedance of the sub that you use.

example: use a 4Ω sub, amp runs at 4Ω; use 2x 4Ω subs in parallel, amp runs at 2Ω

a Dual voice coil sub is basically like running 2 separate subs, so if each coil is 4Ω, wire them in parallel and the amp will run at 2Ω. they also claim that the amp will run at 300w rms @ 2Ω, but i wouldnt be surprised if that is slightly exaggerated.

btw, i've also got a 500w kenwood class a/b 4 channel i run in my car, it sounds pretty good too :icon_thumby:

edit: read this, it explains it well.
