hey guys, so my brother just got this 95 ranger 4x4 with the 2.3l 4cyl. which axle's and gears does it have? the truck has a bent axle shaft, and i was going to just replace it, but im thinking about replacing the whole axle with one from another truck. but i am not sure what years had what gear ratio and axle widths and what not. if i were to swap out the axle withought changing gears or anything what year trucks would i be looking at? posi would be cool to im not sure if his truck has it or not.

More than likely it's a D35/28 hybrid front diff and a 7.5 rear w/ a 4.10 gear ratio.

You can snag a shaft from a 28 spline 7.5 or 8.8. Just replace the shaft.....but verify it's the shaft that's bent and not the axle tube.

Just to be sure....if it's a 4.10 gearing, the door placard axle code will be 87 or F7 w/ a L/S.

well my brother bought the truck and thought that it had a bent rim on the rear. he replaced the rim, and it still wobbles. he says you cant really tell while your driving. but if you are driving behind it you can see one of the wheels wobbling. a mechanic friend of his told him he thinks its the axle. i have not diagnosed the truck, but he says the axle is bent so i am just trying to replace the shaft. or possibly the whole axle if i come across a complete axle for cheap. so a 7.5 or and 8.8 same shaft as long as its 28 spline? what about 2 wheel drive vs 4 wheel drive axle still the same shaft? theres no way to tell the spline count without pulling the shaft right? i have a 8.8 rear out of a 90 5.0 stang, i doubt it but is the stang 8.8 the right shaft that would cost about free.99. haha thanks guys

I don't think the stang shaft will work.

what you need is a '93 or newer ranger axle shaft from the same side as what has the issue, as long as it's not a FX4 Level 2 truck it doesn't matter whether it is 2 or 4 wheel drive

ok so today i was helping my brother with the ranger, and the tag on the ttb says 4.10 on it? the truck is a 1995 4x4 ranger sport with 2.3L 5 spd. im pretty shure that everything on the ttb is stock, so i am assuming the tag on the ttb is original. its like a 4"x3" sticker on the ttb that has some vehicle info. does that mean the truck has 4.10s. did they put 4.10s in the 4cyl?

Yes. 2.3s 4x4s all had 4.10s, unfortunatly all of the 93+ ones have D28/35 hybrids.

so when i am looking for a new axle at pick and pull, does it need to be a shaft from a 4cyl? what is the spline count on 4.10 4cyl truck? also from what years and what vehicles (b2, ranger, ext) can i pull manual hubs from? theres an 88ish bronco 2 with some manual hubs in the junkyard by my house, im asuming that 28/35 have the same hubs right? thanks a bunch guys

on ranger axle shafts, it doesn't matter on engine, they are all the same as long as you get one from a '93 or newer and from the correct side (driver and passenger are different lengths)

as far as hubs, they have to be from a '90 to '97 ranger or a '91-94 explorer, the D28 part of the hybrid is the ring and pinion, the rest is D35, the inner axle shafts are random special things...

You need the inner shafts from a D28-D35 hybrid, everything else besides the pig is the same as any D35.

...I have a hybrid pig and a complete rear axle, both with 4.10's for sale...Since you don't have a location, I don't know if this will help...
