Correct adjust of 88 Compressor BRACKET in 2.3SOHC
Ranger gurus, need help. I have a stock A/C in my 88 Ranger with 2.3 SOHC engine. Flat serpentine-like belt. Someone (brother-in-law-probably) had left most of the compressor-to-bracket bolts off, and the compressor was sitting cock-eyed (not lined up) with the crank and waterpump pulleys.
Please tell me where all the adjusting bolts are... in case I'm missing one. How do you adjust this crazy A/C bracket? I loosened everything, and replaced the bolts in the lower-rear bracket. Then I tried tightening the setup using the half-inch breaker-bar hole, but the compressor remained badly off-line relative to the other pulleys, and the belt just pops right off when the engine starts.
After a lot of fiddling, I tried to just pry on the back of the compressor to straighten it out. I was careful cause I hate to pry on a compressor housing, but it did make a difference. Still, this can't be the "real" way to align the compressor. There must be two-stage adjustments right? first to align the compressor pulleys, then to tighten. Help!
