Coolant Problem....with video

Ok so heres the deal...(video at at the bottom)

awhile ago my temp. gauge (99 xlt 2wd) started going crazy and my coolant would always be brown so I figured radiator is just a little rusty so I drained it and I replaced the thermostat...didnt help

had it checked out and i was told it wasnt a headgasket even though i gathered from this site that it most likely was.

Now I have a new radiator, gone through 3/4 thermostats since 1 was defective and since a shop GARUNTEED me that my headgasket was perfectly fine even though my temp. gauge slowly goes up like normal but will play around for a cm or 2 then drop to bottom of the temp bar and anitfreeze comes bubbling out of my res. tank. A buddy of mine said there is probably air in the system, so i took it to a shop and they got the air out....and this is what still happens

as a side note, my truck seems to idle just fine theres no smoke coming out of my exhaust or anything no noises while running unless you listen and hear the coolant coming out....any ideas???
 
There's a test kit you can get that will detect combustion gases in the coolant. I would see if those bubbles are from combustion gases. It seems like they are just from looking at the video.
 
That for sure is pressure comming out of the system. The only way it is going to get in there is through a crack or a leak somwhere in head-cylinder area. Remember high pressure goes to low pressure as a rule. Cylinder pressure during combustion can get up to 300+ psi and if the gasket has a leak or a hairline crack in your head/cylinder wall, your coolant is going to get bubbles in it. Pehaps you have a cracked head/ head gasket problem after all. Shut the engine down hot and let it sit for a few hours, take out all of your spark plugs and turn it over to see if you have any coolant comming out of any of the plug holes.

How did they determine you did not have a head gasket problem? I think they diagnosed you wrong. The only time I see any engines I work on puke coolant like that it is a head/gasket problem. But I also saw it once when the water pump was bad and caused bad cavitation to the impeller. Do you have a new water pump on it?
 
Another common problem to that would be that the radiator cap has failed. Same condition, different problem. So if the radiator cap is the orginal one, go try replacing it first and see if it fixes the problem.
 
i put a brand new water pump on and a brand new radiator cap too...today my before the cat O2 sensor went out too idk if that makes a difference any

im assuming i got a cracked head or head gasket

Did the new radiator come with a new radiator cap?
 
You can just pull the rad cap off and see if it bubbles the same out of the filler neck of the rad. Bet it does. Head gasket or cracked head...
 
take your thermostat out and pressure test the system that will tell you for sure the shop should of done that first
 
a cracked head or blown gasket could let some coolant down the exhaust. Coolant + O2 sensor = broken O2 sensor. Personally, I sell new up-streams with every head job just in case I got some down the exhaust and it contaminated the sensors. Could point to a coolant system issue. I say just pull the heads and find out whats broken.
 
Next best thing to check, is to remove the radiator cap and check to see if bubbles still appear coming up in the coolant.

Also, have you been driving it to let the coolant cycle through the system. Also, turn on climate controls. Doesn't matter which setting, as along as it is not on "Off". Could be air trapped in the heater core.
 
ok so i took the radiator cap off and i get not near as many bubbles but a few pop up very seldom, and its getting kinda chilly down here so i try to ride with the heater on best I can even though now it doesnt seem to get as hot as it used to...this may sound dumb but if you but your had up to the vent you can feel the heat yet you can feel cool air too and my heater will be on full heat.
 
well, along with having a blown headgasket, your hearter core is proablly gunked up with whatever the old radiatior had in it., you have a fun weekend in your future!
 
Head gasket failure or cracked head. You can do the sniff test too. Just bend down and take a wiff , betcha those bubbles smell like exhaust.
 
Yes I agree that coolant in the exhaust is what caused the O2 sensor to go bad. Next time you get coolant look for some that is sicone free as it will not kill the sensors if it gets in the exhaust. Cause think about it, if it is killing the O2 sensor it is killing your catalyst right along with it. Dead catalyst=$$$$ out of pocket. If you keep driving it in this condition it is just going to cost you more on repairs, not to mention if it gets in your oil.....
