My buddy said one night he was out by his truck, and noticed a huge pool of coolant. He shut off the truck, and let it sit over night. Went back to it in the morning, refilled it, and ran it for a good half hour, no leak. Could it possibly be the thermostat? If not, what else?

Thank you.

Could be the water pump gasket too, similar to what happened to my dad.

leaked out overnight and drove 3+ hours home on the highway without a leak.

Is it a slow drip or a good stream? Might be the rubber "freeze" expansion plug behind the flywheel. Mine was doing the same thing never found the leak until I had a river run out from the "tranny". But there is a rubber plug back there that will deteriorate. And well fall out. Fyi.
