I just bought a 89 Bronco II with a 2.9L engine. I fixed two freeze plugs but right after it started leaking on the drivers side at the front of the engine. I finally located the exact spot. On the front of the engine, under the ac condenser, there is what looks like a type of plug with a hexagon nut holding it in. It is round in size almost like a freeze plug. What could this be.

Sound like an expanding plug, like that used in live wells in boats and drain hole at the back, when you tighten the nut the plug expands, I've seen them sold in replace of freeze plugs a little easier to throw in on the side of the road. Only other thing I could thing of is the temp sensor

It has what looks like a place to plug in a wire, but it had nothi g plugged into it.

Maybe it is an engine block heater. Some people call them a freeze-plug heater.
