ok well i have another problem. seems my coolant likes to walk outta my rad somewhere....heres my issue

my plugs when i did the compression test where unusually clean (IMO) for plugs that have been in my engine for 2000+ km's already.

compression is straight across board there is no "low" cylinder (135-150 across)

no coolant in oil/ no oil in coolant

NO LEAKS

carpet is dry on pass floor and no smell of coolant in cab

WHERE IS MY COOLANT GOING...some signs point to head gasket others point to coolant leak...

i swear owning a RBV is a love hate relationship. :icon_rofl:

dude i am goin through the same sh*t with my BII right now, at first i had no pressure, then it wasnt gettin circulated and now my gauge dont work. sucks ass

if it were goin to the head gasket, wouldnt there be water in your oil?

no leaks? are you sure? where do you drive this thing?

i am DEAD sure there is no leaks....fresh snow hot engine over night...no leaks...

drive it on streets in a city :D

so i have no clue.... grrrr found a 93 explorer for $300 4L swap anyone?

there ya go, i want to do a 4L swap to my BII real bad.....unemployed right now tho.

i bet you have a small crack somewhere that is lowering the pressure in the cooling system and that is causing the coolant to boil at a lower temp and that is where it is goin.

i just finished replacing the thermostat and water pump last week, pain in the ASS.........btw, when you say 'plugs' do you mean spark plugs?

Could be going back to the overflow and leaking out slowly.

well it has to go somewhere. how much is "disappearing". can you smell any coolant? maybe it is evaporating as it leaks. if you are dead sure it is not leaking externally then I am dead sure it is leaking internally.

Freeze plugs possibly? Maybe just a tiny leak that evaporates or pools even and drips off while you are driving?

Worth a check... I think there are two on the front of the heads, two on the back, and 2 or 3 on each side.

Mine is doing the same thing. Better yet the engine was lugging real bad on the first few rotations when starting up since about Christmas.

Last week I put a bottle of Barr's in it, coolant is staying put and it fires right up, NQA now.

You might be leaking into the exhaust. That was one of the common 2.9 head failure points. It cracks on the outer edge, and then runs down the exhaust instead of into the cylinders or crank case. You'll never find it.

yea well maybe ill bring it into the shop and take a look at it on a hoist or in the pit and see if i can see anything....

gunna check it tommorrow morning and see whats up..maybe looses half a litre every so often...

did check it for a month or so and thats all it needed maybe a litre...

could be a rad issue....weird thing that happened on the way to the g/fs house...my truck at idle always shakes abit...standard vibration to me...well at a light the truck becomes smooth as silk...im like WTF MATE and had to blip the throttle to make sure my truck was still running..

did that all the way home...perfect idle...needless to say im worried LOL

haha no check engine light here...weird...

heres a question will a 89 2.9 drop and plug into my 87 harness?

i found an engine HAHA time to hop it up if it works!

i think our trucks may be long lost brothers or at least distant cousins

the head gasket could be leaking into the exhaust. i did own one festiva were the coolant would leak into the rad about a quart a month. It never had any water in the oil i drove it like that for a year and even sold it like that always rand and drove fine. try to get some of that uv leak detector works wonders in finding a leak.

gunna try that...iv been keeping a better eye on it know...doesnt seem to gown down passed a certain point...i dunno ill find it one day...
