So this one has me baffled. I have a 97 Ranger with the 3.0L motor in it. I recently had to replace the alternator this is the 4th one i put on, finally tracked down the problem as to why i was frying them. Thankfully the fine folks at autozone kept swapping them out under warranty. Anyways we had to cheat to get the alternator off this time. The tensioner was bound up and would not release so engineering me unbolted the alternator and slid it out. Put it all back together and have this screeching. Well i have found that it's the tensioner for that. However the gauge issue is this.

Once it gets up to operating temp the coolant gauge goes up when i accelerate and down when i deccelerate. So my mechanic thinks it's the coolant temperature sensor. He told me to do it myself rather then pay him because it's easy and i already owe him like a lot. What i can't figure out is where it is? It appears to be there is two sensors. Which one is the one for the gauge? I would assume if it's the one that read to the computer acting up it would throw a code right? Also do yall think it is the actual temp sensor? I'm ordering a batch of parts from rock auto and wanna get the part i need from there.

Any questions just ask. Also i'm fairly sure it ain't the thermostat. I get good hot heat and unsure about the AC. It has never worked since i got the truck. The compressor is either bad or it needs recharged. I also replaced the thermostat in 2009 when i replaced the radiator.

Well. Think i figured it out. Replacing the two sensors and gonna be done with it. Snapped one the plastic part so both are being replaced. Got the one tonight and the other will be at the store tomorrow morning.

Replaced both sensors and she worked like a dream. I was so happy that they fixed the problem. Nice to have my truck back and not have to drive my cougar with the busted motor mounts. :headbang:

The oil pressure gauge and oil gauges on Most Fords are pretty fake. Think idiot lights in gauge form.
