Borrowed from another board...

"Is it just me? .... .. As you watch the flooding in the Midwest, have you noticed that there are no farmers running around with stolen plasma TVs or holding stolen liquor over their heads. There's no looting or yelling "Where's Bush?","Where's FEMA?, Where's my check?", or "Why isn't the Gov't out here saving me and my farm?" Likewise, I've also noticed there are no reports of any other country coming to help or sending aid. Shocking contrast isn't it???!!!!"

And it isn't in the middle of a big city, either.

Just how much footage did you really see of the Mississippi gulf coast?

Don't start on down south....idiots in biloxi bi)$hing that the govt didnt tell them they need flood insurance.......um, hurricanes flood low areas!!!

Alot of farmers are already getting govt. subsidies. LOL

I was talking about this very thing today at work with a guy. He tried to tell
me that the people down south could not afford to leave when they were warned.

I say BS

Living on the gulf coast and expecting to NOT get flooded
shows the same kind of dilusional thinking as would be
demonstrated by a Jew moving TO Germany in the 1930's.

My comment recently to someone who complained about Bush and FEMA
in NewOrleans was that in what way was Bush responsible for choosing
THAT location to build the city in the firstplace

And what alternative universe did they come from to believe
that the rest of us should be asked to pay for REBUILDING
the city in the same STUPID spot?

"They couldn't get out" is a claim that I WILL NOT swallow.

The huge parking lots full of flooded school buses puts that arguement down...

"Oh there were no licensed school bus drivers"
So F'ing What? It's an EMERGENCY!

When LIVES are at risk laws are irrelevant.

In an EMERGENCY you do WHATEVER is necissary.

Hey, we're people. I'm an idiot too. In the winter I curse and swear and shiver and promise to worship the themometer if it ever shows so much as 50 again. The sun and sweat sound wonderful.

Then, it's 90F and 90% and I curse and moan and long for the cooling winter--where at least you can take off or add a layer to adjust. The friggin heat is killing my ass. I can't, right now, remember what it's like to be cold.

When it's dry and everything is brown and no rain in sight, I curse and bitch and hold my arms up to the heavens praying for a soothing drop on the parched land. Then it's raining and I'm cursing and running around digging and laying tile and wondering when the christ it's ever going to stop.

being an idiot is what keeps me sane. I'd be down there in my FEMA trailer bitching about it to.

I spent the last week helping out some of the people that had gotten flooded out of their place. It's not fun, but we all understand that shit happens and that God makes it happen for a reason.

Yes, I've noticed that there isn't all kinds of bitching from people around here too.

It's a wonderful thing living in small towns... I hate population overdoses.

The wife and I like to watch the different TV programs where people shop and buy a new home and you get to see the different ones they're considering.

It amazes me that anyone would buy a home in New Orleans that's being renovated from the flood.

You live below sea level. You live next to the sea! Why don't people SEA the problem here?

I'm sure the Hoover dam will never burst. You'd never see me building a cabin near the base of it though.

Maybe Louisiana should change their moto to "Shit happens.".

We're just miniscule organic lumps. We make a tiny squealing sound that nothing in the universe can hear. The Earth doesn't even know we're here. It's not it's fault some weird scum is forming around it's perimeter and the other planets are laughing at it. But at least it doesn't have stupid rings.

Shit happens, but in the large picture, it isn't detectible. In fact, statistically, we are extremely far from existing I would think.

We bought some FEMA trailers and have them for sale. Would you like one? We cleaned out most of the cockroaches and fixed all the shit they tore up. After all, it wasn't their property.

Jim, I watch those shows too, I think the one your talking about is House Hunters.

I also like watching the shows where they flip the houses.

Yeah, how much are you asking for the FEMA trailers? How long are they?

There's nowhere completely safe from some kind of natural disaster. Murphy's Law is universal.

I don't know. I feel pretty safe in my well-built wood house on the side of a hill. I'm in western wa, so I guess we could have a pretty big earthquake. No gas lines in or near this house though. I suppose that spittoon full of quarters on top of my cd case could fall and hit me in the head. Maybe I should move that.

i was there.

for months. working.

sucked. worse then andrew....

Being close to the area in question I can see the people not complaining about the area they live in being flooded. They live close to the Mighty Mississippi and expect that river to rise with that amount of rain. The Govenors of all the states involved take action first and then they ask for Federal help from there. Most areas being declared in a state of emergency as levi's are breaking and letting the water in places where it isn't supposed to be. Fema will step in after and help with low interest loans to get those affected back into the groove. I can remember back in 1982 I lived near a river and we had alot of rain in January and along with the 10 or so inches of snow and the thick ice on the river he town I lived in got tore up bad. I don't remember what exactly happened to some of the town as I was 11 years old. I do remeber having to move out of the house because the water was to the floor joices of the first floor. I don't think that Fema was a Ferderal Agency yet and my parents had flood insurance that paid 100% for everything.
