yess i searched but couldnt find my problem.

so my truck idles at about 1500 ALL THE TIME it doesnt matter if it cold of warm all the time and if i put on the ac it goes down to about 1100. i have loosened my adjuster screw all the way till its not touching. i have an iac restricter plate (home made) that made it stop surging at a stop and drop rpm much quicker and easyer shifts. but it was idleing high b4 that even. i already cleaned my iac but maby i need a new one what do u think? its a 1998 3.0 manual 5 speed

how does it run? possible vaccuum leak?

that isnt an idle adjustment screw. your TPS is now out of adjustment.

does the idle drop when you unplug the IAC? if it does, get a new IAC. if it doesnt, check for vacuum leaks.

i made the mistake of moving that skrew once and the trk suffered tremendously, best to put it back, the computer doesnt know what position the throttle plate is at. on another note what did you do to the iac? it shouldnt be modified or messed w/, otherwise the skrew servo gears can be stripped and its locked in place at high idle, prob was b4 you did whatever to it. like everyone else said pull the wire and see if she drops/dies if so new iac if not get you a can of carb cleaner and start spraying intake areas and manifold gaskets for leaks. if the trk revs when squirting around the gaskets you have a leak my friend.

IACV is on top of the throttle body correct?

Yeah it is a pretty obvious part, and when you see the two screws on the diamond-shaped thing you'll know that's it.

I'd like to see pics of your Maxima.

Ill get pics of both hopefully today and ill put them in the general thread forum as title, new member, pics!

anyways, my ranger seems to be intermitently doing this high 1500 idle, but when ac is going its 1100...just went to try and unplug the iac but it wasn't doing the high idle, unplugged it anyway and nothing changed. On the iac itself it says to not clean the throttle body because it has a special coating. Is this true? what can I safe clean, I have carb cleaner. If I remove the IAC will it need a gasket, liquid gasket or something?

if your lucky you wont tear the paper gasket, mine didnt tear when i removed it, but i changed the gasket anyway cuz i was changing the iac. ive never heard of the t/b having special coating but the plastic bushings on the side may have problems w/ the cleaner and cause a small air leak/sticking throttle. remove the iac and look for varnish in the ports and the slide, spray around the edges of the valve etc and just to see that its not sticking (i dont know if your supposed to do this but i did one time...) w/ the iac removed connect the wire and have somebody cut the key on, the iac will move and reset itself some, make sure it isnt snagging or anything and then turn the key off and reinstall.

maxima and ranger pics are up, check general forum

That Maxima is something to be proud of. It is SO clean man. Very sexy.

thanks. Ive owned that car for about 5 years now. Ive put some much time and sweat into that thing. It will last me a long time, very reliable machine. It seems to attract the attention of high school kids/college in civics and integra's who think they're bad ass. usually before I hit 2nd gear, 43mph, im a good 1-2 car lengths ahead and :icon_rofl: at them when they pull up to me at the next light

How can I tell if the person that owned the truck before me had messed with the idle screw? Is there a way to make sure its set at right position?
