I've been reading a lot about a swap to manual for a 99 Ranger 3.0l 4x4, and I know it may not be easy, but I like manual and the auto is near toast.
I'd most likely buy a doner for the tranny and pedals, maybe the column and dash if I can get the right yr doner. Oh...and the computer if needed.
And I guess thats the question. Apart from obviously getting a 98 or 99 doner, what other yrs could I look for?...I'd rather spend a couple a hundred on and older truck and get what i need.....

You could use an sct x-cal tuner to eliminate the auto aspects of the computer, and improve some other areas at the same time. That way all you'd need would be the manny trans, and some new pedals. The tuner would be around $400 though, so it may cost just as much as a cheap donor.
