I've got a black wire and a brown wire coming from under the carpet just behind the driver seat that go to a grey connector, with two black wires coming out of the mating side of the connector. Those two black wires have been cut/ripped out of where ever they go. Any thoughts on what they go to?

My guess; electric seat adjustment or maybe lumbar support pump.

Nope, the seat doesn't have either of those

Could be the seat belt warning...

The seat adjustments or lumbar support may be pre-wired regardless of their inclusion as options...it just saves time and money to install that stuff at the factory sometimes...I've got a similar connector and the options on the seats...I just never bothered to plug in the seats.

Correction, the brown wire is actually brown/lt blu. And it's not just going to a dead connector like it was a prewired option. There's a connector plugged into it with two black wires going out of it, but they're cut about a foot from the connector and I can't find what they went to.

Is the wiring for your seatbelt warning there and intact? It sounds like the seatbelt minder.

Black and light blue are for the dome lights The brown may be worn out black.

Did the '89 have the seat belt reminder? There's nothing going to the drivers side belt clip. The plastic shroud that was on it was half broke so I just ripped if off and didn't see anything on the belt clip that looked like those wires would have gone to it. And I don't think it's dome light, as my dome light is working.

Comes out of the back beside the wires going to the speaker boxes. Mine has a length of cable protector on the wires almost to the connector. Did you get any response at all? I just pulled my seats out and found it. A seventh speaker, sub-woofer?

Seeing that @jco77on hasn't been here in 10 years, you probably won't get a response.
Thanks. I just signed up. Picked up a 91 cheap, for good reason, and after buying the Haynes and Chilton books felt I needed somewhere to ask the questions the books don't cover.

1st and 2nd gen as far as I have ever seen (looked at a lot in junkyard) basically never had power seats or lumbar, it might have been a 1 in 1000 'order only' option.
your first picture I am sure is seatbelt dinger (front and center) with rear speaker in the upper right corner, 2nd pic is again rear speaker.
I'd hazard if it is 1st gen and a grey 2 wire connector under the seat it is the nag chime.

side note, later delux early explorer (like eddie bauer but ~pre airbags) have the exact same connector (they will mate) but that runs power seats.

Now I'm going to hop in my truck and drive off with the belt on. I thought the buzzer was working but now I have doubts.
