Connector pinout question

I've got an 8 pin connector that is giving me some grief. The previous owner of this truck gave the wiring a pretty ugly hack and slash job and I'm in the process of trying to get it running again.

This connector is located on the drivers side near the ignition coil and I do know that two of the wires lead to the alternator. I've got a pic for some more reference.

I'd like it if someone with a shop manual or the experience of dealing with this issue could give me a pinout of the connector or a color coding for it.

apologies if this is in the wrong spot.

a little more info on this plug. viewing the female plug from the back, the left side pins from top to bottom are... Yellow w/white dots, Red w/yellow slashes, white/red, and red/white. the right side pins from top to bottom are Light Blue/yellow, orange/light blue, brown/pink red, and empty.

the 3rd pin down on the right has both brown/pink and red wires in it.

any help with these wires would be greatly appreciated.

What I have found points to this connector being C102. I'm not 100% on that.

Look up an "engine wiring schematic" for an '84 ranger.

Past that, the only help I can give you is to tell you to check to see which wires have power on them when the key is on, as well as telling you to trace them to their ending and beginning destinations.

Thanks for the guidance.

As far as tracing them goes... not really possible to find the destinations as the previous owner hacked them apart and spliced them with odds and ends and now no color matches another on the engine-side of the plug.

I'll try pulling the dash and finding the interior side of the bundle and see.
