Confused???

i have an 87 b2 with a speedo, tach, fuel level, and temp gauges in the cluster. then there is the battery light, the oil light, the high beam light, the 4x4 light, the low range light, the seat belt light, the emiss light, the brake light, the check oil light, the water in fuel light, the rear antilock brake light, and the check engine light. but heres the wierd thing the check engine light doesnt have a light bulb sockect behind it in the cluster and theres a blank spot for an additional light that has the same thing, no light bulb socket, and then the water in fuel light just didnt have a bulb in the sockect. im wondering if the check engine light is not used on this vehicle because there is no place for a bulb to light it up when it would go on, and if the water in fuel light is not used because there was no bulb where one would go? im really confused so any help is good. thanx

some of the early EEC-IV vehicles didnt get a check engine light.

the water in fuel light is only used in the diesels.

thanx for the help i was sure the water in fuel was for the diesels only but wasnt for sure on the check engine light thanx again

Check engine lights were required for California vehicles in 1988. Virtually all manufacturers implemented it everywhere. Ford seems to have put them partially into quite a lot (perhaps all) 1987 vehicles.

You can make that CEL work if you really want to -- just connect the ground side to the self-test output line from the PCM. The hot side should already be taken care of.
