Anyone here do this type of work? I am having a 10x25' concrete pad put on the back of my new house. The have to tear up a 4x6 pad. They are then going to dig down 4" and pour 4" of gravel before pouring 4" of concrete. They are then going to stamp it with a slate stamp to make it look like rock.

What should I expect to pay for this?

They didn't give you any estimate at all?

$2,000 or thereabouts I would think.

you should do the tear up yourself, you can rent a jackhammer, or see if a buddy has one

even if not, get a pic axe (this should work right?) and a few sludge hammers I would guess... and get some strong friends over there.

they will charge you alot for the labor I would assume.

figure out how much each bag of concrete gives you in volume, and see how many bags you would need for your size patio.... that should give you a very rough estimate, you will also need to do the same volume estimates for the gravel, also 2x4's to frame the patio.

other than that it's going to be mainly labor I would assume.

I paid $200 about 2 years ago for a 10x10 and I did all the work. All I paid for was for them to bring the truck and pour the concrete inside my form. You are talking about a lot of work.

I would say it will be about $2,000 in labor alone. It will take them about 2 10 hour days to do all that. If there is 2 guys doing the work, that is about $50 an hour on labor (which is cheap).

I would say all done you are looking at around $5,000 to $6,000. That includes labor, rock, forms, concrete, and everything else.

I agree, you should find time to do as much as you can yourself. I know you are busy, but you could save yourself a ton of money. You can rent Bobcats, jack hammers, concrete trowels, and you can build the forms out of 2x4's and plywood.

BTW, you don't need 4" of rock below a deck. If you are not going to use it as a driveway or to carry any major weight, the 2" of rock will be plenty.

FYI, Concrete around me is $80 a yard delivered. For that pad, you will need about 38 yards of concrete, but I would order 40 just to be safe.

That's about 170 60# bags of cement. 83 cubic feet or about 3 yds. I don't think so. I did a footer for an 8x8 shed and it was about 33bags. It took 2 hours doing about 5 bags at a time in the bucket of my skidsteer. In a wheelbarrow you can do two bags at a time. And doing a big flat surface--and ending up with a big flat surface--that's a job for a concrete professional.

No, I have an estimate. Just wanted opinions before I skewed it with telling everyone. They want $1,765. I think it's a steal. BBB has no complaints on them. The porch is behind the house and there is NO way a concrete truck would fit back there. They will have to use a wheelbarrow or something to get all the materials in and or out.

Heather thinks it's high, but I think it's a good price.

I didn't in considering the flatness needed.. also if it sits right up against the house, shouldn't it be slightly angled away from the house?

anyway, i'd still see if you have any friends who are in construction, as they can often get good deals for you.

My brother just got a slab done, about 30x30 for $3,800. I sort of divided by 2 for his slab.

Might want to try your math again :icon_twisted:

They said $1,590 without stamping and $1,765 with it.

that's all aesthetics... if you want it to look nicer, it's gonna cost you 200 bucks more...

Not many people like the look of just bare concrete... I'd spend the extra money now, as it will probably increase the resell value down the road when it looks nicer.

If thats all supplies (concrete, rebar, forms) and labour I'd say it sounds like a good deal.

I signed the contract yesterday. It includes everything down to the local permits and them contacting the "call before you dig" people.

Now if it would just get nice so they could do it.
