I've dumped so much salt onto concrete surfaces over the years it'd probably make your skin crawl. :icon_twisted:

Not him--the people's driveways he salts. I think it's a conspiracy between the snow removal and concrete people. We need a congressional commitee.

True it does eat the top layer but its most damaging the first year and any readymix plant is going to recomend you use straight sand.

if i figure it correctly....

salt water has a lower freezing point than pure water... so that's why people use salt so that it's water instead of ice, even though snow definitely isn't "pure".

the sand just gives traction. more surface area for you to step on, and that spreads out your force that you exert on the earth.

also, alot of the ice melt products contain chemicals that cause soil erosion, contaminated run off water, and such. if you're going to use salt, use straight salt (IMO)

this is my final say on salt . its your concrete if you want it to last and look good for years to come. get out there and shovel it. btw unless the ready mix plant has a finishing division the only thing they are looking out for is shale pop. its the crew that laid down the pad that is responsible for the guarantee ,or just keep using salt and shit all over your concrete it keeps me working.:icon_rofl:
