im doing the v8 swap in my 85 and was wondering if i will have to put in heavier springs and shocks .. i tryed a search on what the weight difference is between the 2.8v6 and the 302v8 but didnt find any thing..

its not really a concern with a 5.0.

a big block or a bigger diesel on the other hand...

Mine sits about the same as it did with a 2.8.

I questioned the alignment before the swap, so I will have it aligned afterwards.

Mine was a 4.0, did not drop at all with the 5.0. I did remove AC.

I swapped my front springs to those made for a 94 Explorer with an A/C equipped 4.0.

I set an iron 460 in my '93 4.0 Ranger to see how it would fit and my tires still sat like this \ / but that's without a transmission or radiator. I noticed no difference in my '97 that went from a 2.3 to a 5.0

The suspension has to settle though. It would take a lot of weight to force the tires to slide out, but if you had rolled it around it would have looked different.

Mine stayed with the severe \--o-/ alignment until I rolled it in and out a couple times.

There are times I have stopped hard and parked that the wheels were like /--o-\ from nosediving with just the little 2.8 in there.

Yeah I know that trick from my days of building lowriders... it would drop another inch or two from rolling it after dropping it off the jack, so I rolled my Ranger and it did drop some, but they still sat out at the top. I'd like to find a good list of all the Ranger spring codes and weight ratings... if you happen to know of any lol.

With a winch(cable on the drum) and the V-8 and even the C-6, I havent noticed any drop on my 84.
With 2.8

With V-8 and extras

i still love the way that thing looks:icon_thumby:

just get some new shocks bud, i went from the 2.3 4cyl and it doesnt even lower and i have new suspension front and rear. just get it for a 4 wheel drive setup. they are a little bit tougher

i got the v8 in the truck now and i dont think it even moved at all but i will be getting new shocks and maybe have the front end lined up...it needs it anyway..
