I know this question has been asked but I can't seem to find it with a search. Which computers are compatable with a 94 Ranger 4.0, no EGR, Auto? Mine may have died and it would be nice to have a backup to plug in.

you want a 1993 Explorer or 1993 and the first half of 1994 computer, I don't know the specific numbers.

Frankly I'd go looking for a 1993 Explorer computer because they are more common.
They also have a somewhat more agressive tune, because explorers (for fairly obvious reasons) don't have the traction problems that Rangers do.

I'm certain I have one floating around here somewhere.

I have a Sploder comp. sitting on the shelf. I just didn't know it would work. You are right about the tune. The Explorer had a lot more power and it is the same engine (literally) in the Ranger minus the upper intake manafold. Thanks!

It's GOTTA BE a 1993 computer.

the 1990-92 are NOT compatible with the 1993's.

Allan's rite... earlier models were batch fire and the later were sequential. If you try to run a batch fire on a newer system, your gonna have a real rich running engine..... if it will even run at all. :annoyed: Done that.... been there... got the t-shirt. :annoyed: If you REALLY need a 94 auto computer, let me know. I have a "known to be good" one here.

The earlier 91-92 4.0's only used one HO2S, while the 93-94 used 2.

I've got the 93 comp that came out of the same Sploder the engine came out of. I just didn't know if it would work as the Ranger had no EGR and the Sploder was an EGR system.

If you run a EGR PCM on an engine w/o EGR, you might get a DTC, and CEL. As it senses it doesn't have any type of input form the EGR.

90-92 is the "grey" injectors and a Single HEGO
93 is "Red" injectors and Dual HEGO
SOME 94's are Red Injectors, Dual HEGO, EGR & SEFI.

the rest of the 1994's are the same as the '93's.

If you have EGR, you also have SEFI.

If you have EGR, you also have SEFI.AD

So, what does that mean exactly. I know what SEFI means but will this computer work with my application without making my check engine light come on?

Honestly, I think I just have a gounding issue. There are a few other wierd things going on as well. I'm checking all the wiring before I do anything else but if I have a spare comp it would be nice to be able to troubleshoot.
