Computers..............

Yeah, I know (or knew of) plenty of people still running OS 9...as long as your peripherals hold up and you don't need to upgrade for anything else they usually still work...only when the HDD goes south or you try to add something of a more recent nature will you run into problems...

I'm still running Win2K on mine...but that is a considerably more supported OS than even OS X.2...

Shady: Did you get what you needed out of this thread or are you still wondering???

OS 9 was a LOOOOONG time ago.... Im on OS10.4.11... the new one that they came out with is ( i believe) OS10.5

OS 9 is kind of hard to get programs for, but OS 10 is extremely easy!

Macs are only good for:
A. Audio video editing
B. Technology illiterate people

PC's are more versatile and don't have SO much user friendly things that just get annoying. They also cost a shit ton less for what you get than a mac. Oh and if you have a problem with a PC or wanna upgrade just tear the side off and go, most mac users wouldn't dare opening the goofy ass mac cases. Just my opinion and I'm sure some mac fanboy will tear into me for it :icon_twisted:

...and are more like Windows with every version of OS...but that is another down...the OS is under constant change and a new version is released pretty much every year or sometimes sooner...

You mean that Windows is becoming more like Mac OS with every version. lol

Everything new in Vista was basically stolen directly from OSX.

OSX is an amazingly stable operating system, I love mine.

I did tech support on Macs starting with OS 8.something right up till X.5 was released...I heard all the complaints from faithful Mac users over the years, but most of them loved their computers...

Yeah, something like that, haha...

I know the OS is stable...I just finished a Linux course and was quite impressed with RH10...even though I couldn't figure a few things out...like controls for the Apache Web Server...but that was more because I'd only been at it for a month and switched between RH core2..then to 5, then jumped to 10 within that month...

When I tried to kill an app I got the familiar "Forced Quit" message...one that I encounted numerous times doing Mac tech support...

Not a Mac fanboy (well, not TOO much :icon_thumby:) but this post is chock full of inaccuracies.

Yes. Thank you. I think I will give the Mac a try. Cost is not a problem. I am not into tinkering, don't have the time. Plus, I want to be able to go back to the dealer if there are problems.:)shady

Actually it's "chock full" of experience with each. I have edited alot of video on mac and some audio and no doubt they excel beyond PC's at it but beyond that macs are just too "user friendly" and really don't have a place in much other areas. It all comes down to opinion of the OS...

I have a bit on both also. 10+ years on Mac, and 15+ on Windows, along with a lot of MCSE, CNE, and such certs.

I'll take a Mac for anything other than PC gaming.

And I find the Mac OS much less intrusive than Windows popping up a balloon every time it successfully connects to a wifi, sends a job to a printer, or decides to protect me by rebooting my machine in the middle of the night to help me out, simultaneously killing my download in the process.

But different strokes for different folks. :icon_pepsi:

I'm working on my certs now. It's a debate that can go on forever like 3.0 4.0 they both work fine its just what you have and what you prefer/use it for.

That debate HAS gone on forever. Ever since Windows 1. So similar to MacOS that Apple sued Microsoft over it. That was the "look and feel" lawsuit, and they lost. The whole thing was a huge headscratcher, since all of us techies know Apple didn't invent any of that stuff either (it came from Xerox).

The thing is, MacOS X bears more resemblance to Linux (well, FreeBSD) than it does to earlier versions of MacOS. And it REALLY looks like NeXTStep (can't imagine why....).

MS *IS* very good at creating a canned experience, which is what has been asked for. If only they were good at actual engineering as well....you HAVE to keep up with updates or else you become a spam gateway and scratch your head about why your ISP has throttled you down (IF you figure it out).

I downloaded Windows 7 and I plan on trying it soon.

Ya I know that James been doin this for awhile just better to run it on 2 cards imo less lag if you have bigger apps open and it helps if you have large amounts of ram. Like a said upgrading to 8g :P Post your build I like seeing what others have built :P

I've had it for a couple of days, as has one of the other guys in the IT department at my office. Both of us are very happy with it so far, which is emphatically something we could NEVER say about Vista (which has improved, but still has its issues). Performance is on par with XP even on older hardware, and a lot of the new interface changes seem pretty intuitive once you get used to them.

You mean Windows becomes more like OS with every version. All the new things that were added to Vista were stolen from OSX.

The only downside to a mac is the price, but if you want a very stable platform without going the linux route I would highly recommend one.
