i have a 1990 ranger with a 4.0 the previous owner swapped in a manual trans but still has the computer for the auto trans in it after about 6 months of driving it i started getting fuel pressure issues my pump will get 12volts to prime the lines then wen the relay cuts off it would go to 6volts i pulled the computer out and 2 capacitors in it were burnt up . also when i pulled the computer out the 6volts went away so do i need a computer from a manual ranger and would this cause my auto trans computer to burn up running it with a manual trans over time?

If you have a manual trans, it only makes sense (common sense) to use a manual ecu...

thats what i was thinking but next what computer would i get i noticed they made 3 or 4 different computers for the ranger with the 4.0 and manual trans and would i need to rewire anything for it to work properly

The only thing you really truly need to worry about is not getting the MAF computer if you don't have a MAF sensor.

Agreed. The ECU doesn't control the trans, so it's not that big of a deal. I would assume the major difference between the two is the spark table.
