What type of connector does the 86 ford with a 2.9 use, so I can buy a computer to test for codes?

Thanks,
Did a search with no luck, figured get more reliable information here.

It is an EEC-IV computer using OBD I (on-board diagnostic 1), in 1995 and 1/2, lol, Rangers switched to OBD II

The connector is usually under the hood by the master cylinder, but can be on the passenger side as well
Look here for what connector looks like: http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/OBD_I.shtml

Ok, I am buying a few parts from your last post to test out a couple of things, and I plan on checking the timing again. While I was at work, I did look at the original timing mark I made so I could see it, and it was on the 10/12 mark.

I am going to get the diagnostics, fuel pressure tester, and also check to see if I spark is advancing after I recheck the timing. It has to be something simple that is keeping me from getting good power at higher speeds. I do know if I hit the gas when I high gear I tend to get a smell, would this mean anything?

Also, I know the fuel filter was severely clogged when I changed it, so it is very possible that the sock over the pump is clogged too. I originally thought it was my fuel injectors, so I had them replaced too.

Low power at high speed, a smell when giving it lots of gas in high gear...

Any chance this thing is a manual?

It certainly sounds like a downshift is in order doesn't?

Actually, I am thinking the clutch might be starting to slip.

That is usually how it starts, low power transfer and you smell it burning when you up the load suddenly, especially at high loads like 4th or 5th gear.

It is auto, and it the transmission and torque converter is new. I have noticed that it doesn't seem to kick into gear when the gas is pushed, so at times I really have to push down hard on it.

Does the kick down need to be adjusted?

Also, what is the redline limit, and under normal driving conditions should 4th be kicking in? Mine kicks in roughly around 50 to 60 depending on how hard the gas is pushed.

I do agree that I have noticed this might have been an issue, but I still see some lack of power in higher gear. Going up hills I have a hard time keeping 70 constant.
