Compressor cycling

With my a/c on, the compressor clutch kicks in for about a second, and then turns off for about 5 soconds, and then repaeats. Is this normal? It doesn't seem to be blowing cold, but then again it's not that warm out, so it might just not feel cold. It was a bit low on refridgerant, so i filled it to the recomended pressure.

sounds about normal to me...maybe a little on the quick side.

i'd have a shop check the pressures for you...as those little refrigerant-in-a-cans you get from wal-mart dont really cut it.

Maybe I'll have my girlfriend's dad check it out, he does residential and automotive a/c.

on/off a/c

I've been told that if you're selector is in the defrost position, it will cycle to keep air dry for defrost. Before I could check this out both truck a/c s burnt out.
I will check my 97 7.3.

i belive his concern was with how fast the compressor was cycling, not when it was cycling.

and yes, the a/c does run when in defrost mode.

Like Wicked said, it will cycle fast when low on freon.

yeah, I just added more 134 and now it's working fine. I guess you just shouldn't trust the cheap pepboys gauges.

I'd still have a shop check pressures (including the high side).

If you overcharged this, it won't last as long as you might like. And by guessing, you have VERY likely overcharged it.
