Hi all,

I have some figures here and want to know what you think.
Have a 1988 Ford Ranger pickup 2wd, 2.0 liter ,4cylinder engine with a 5 speed manual.

All 3 cylinders had a PSI of 140, and one with 110 Psi. It doesn't sound good.

What would the normal psi be for this engine?

Thanks in advance

That's not awful. The last cylinder is pushing the bottom of the acceptable variation. It is only 78% of the others.

Here is a chart

I can't remember what mine was when I did it on the 2.0 but IIRC it was in the 130 psi range or higher.

Edit: just saw the chart from adsm08...thought it was 10-15% but the chart indicates higher...

What you can try is have a leak down test done to see if it is valves or rings. This requires a s
special tester and you can buy them for as little as $40 but you need an air compressor as well.
