Compatibility question...

I have a 96 explorer (its died finally). and my buddy has a 99 ranger. both have the 4.0l OHV. his EGR sensor broke a tab off and cracked a hose. Mine however is still working perfectly. Is it possible to simply swap the two out? I know its easy to do but I don't want to mess with his computer by putting an incompatible sensor in. he needs it for a DD.

If it plugs in it will work. Ford used the same DPFE for lots of vehicles over lots of years.
