Common Box/bed issues Ford Ranger questions?

I'm in northern Ohio where anything more than a few years old is set out to "rust in piece"
seeing a bed & frame that clean makes me want to cry.

I wish there was more details in the video, from here the repairs don't add up to that much mis-alignment.
was the $5500 for a full frame? or just the back half?

5500 $in up for the entire frame but i don't think they would be able to even hook back up my setup. I have a custom setup on this truck. All the mounts would have to be redone i guess. But i don't know if that shop is capable of doing all that. The ranger is v8 swapped who knows maybe i will just save my money and fix the truck. But i think i would pick out my own frame for the truck. I would prefer a painted clean frame rust free. I am still getting over the shock of it all. I have not decided what to do yet. I posted about selling the truck to someone in the community.

the rear half of the frame is a separate piece, it's attached with only 16 rivets. and wires, and fuel lines, and brake lines etc.
the two halves are joined at the front spring hangar.
the hardest part is the parts are big and clumsy to handle.

They told me my truck is Diamond bent in the middle then cut and welded short, the frame also had some rust damage.
The woman there who is the Boss said to me that i would not drive that truck or let my family drive that truck it is just not safe...

I would have to replace the entire frame for that shop to touch it or they can't warranty anything. So for them to do it for me they have to replace the whole thing or they won't do it. I could call and explain that the frame is 2 pieces but i don't think they deal with half frames you know what i mean. Plus i don't think its the best idea to take another frame and just put it together, It would probably be better to swap the whole thing in, But i don't know im no expert on frames.

When i think of removing the factory rivets and taking the frame apart i think of weakness when i put it back together but idk i could be wrong.

The shop could be a little ignorant of rangers but i don't expect them to be ranger experts either.
I could find another shop but idk there isn't that many shops that fix frame damage near me. I would have to drive the unsafe vehicle a long distance or have it towed...

Im considering the 6000$ repair frame replacement cause i don't like any new trucks but i don't know if my truck is worth it. As i have said already i only bought the truck for 6500 $and i put 5000$ into it roughly.

I was thinking of selling the truck back to the previous owner who built it i only have had it for maybe 2 months.
I have not decided yet what to do.

not being able to do the work yourself is a definite disadvantage. a shop, or garage, and time is something not everybody can have.
paying someone else to do the work is something I could not afford to do.
having been exposed to liability issues myself, I can understand why shops don't want to work on some situations.
it appears you have all the information & evidence presented to you, time for a tough decision.

many of us here would look at that frame and get a twinkle in our eyes as we run to get some tools.
that includes me, but I'm 2000 miles away and already have a driveway full of "projects"

if you do sell it, be sure to make the frame issues known and recommend bringing a trailer.
that will offer you some protection if the buyer tries to back out.

Im am considering fixing the truck and replacing the frame after i save for few months. Its only 6000$ witch is alot but when you really think about it its not. I was going to make another post about finding a frame replacement i already posted about selling the truck. I consider the truck totaled but i may register the vehicle non operational and stop paying for the insurance for a few months. So the only real problem now is were do i find a frame. Let me go down to the frame store and get another frame lol. The shop is luckily BYOB when it come to getting a frame. So they will let me get a frame and ship it to them. So that may lower the cost of the entire frame swap dramatically depending on how much the frame cost.

with how much you already have in the truck, you might as well just change the frame. then you will have your custom v8 ranger and will know everything about it and it will last a long time.

You might also want to take a look at @Shran's truck. It's got a custom bed and was voted car of the month.

Ironically, that truck has a replacement frame because the truck got rear ended before I got it and the frame was kinked right behind the cab mounts. We tried cutting the rear half of the frame off and replacing it with one off another truck. It was way better but not perfect. The bed no longer lined up with the cab...just barely noticeable. I wanted it perfect so I did a frame swap... and now I have a 1988 body on a 1992 frame.

A very cool repair!
