Coleman Liquid Fuel

Just what in the world have I done...

The 508 in the foreground I bought new in the 80's. Been on all but a couple of my hunting/fishing/camping trips since then. Still runs... but finicky. I sure didn't need three more.

I would have been happy as a lark with these three roached birthday pieces...

But NOOOOO...

I haven't picked any antiques... garage sale... flea market or ebay in like 6 or 7 years. I guess I had a bad itch... and I scratched it til it bled.

I have to admit... it's even worse.

I'm gonna go stand in the corner and reflect on what I've done now...
I'd be willing to buy one of those single burners next time we get together if you dont want them all.

I've had this idea in my head for awhile. I bought a 285A unfired really cheap when I lost my mind ebay-n the other day. I figured it was a good time to do it.

The Coleman Jack-O-Lantern...

It's the only way my wife will let me put any of my junk on display out in the living room.

I'll add that my plan is to gift it to my daughter with a gallon of coleman fuel and a four pack of mantles for Christmas. They can use it for camping and keep it with their emergency preparations if they ever need to use it.

I opened up my eBay app last night to look for an air filter and this is the first thing I see. $125 + 25 shipping. I'll be hard pressed to find another one... but that's kinda spendy.

This morning I get on to track an order and I got a 20% off "offer" for that item... and I just got paid... dammit.... I guess I have to have it. It'll match my 2 burner 442 nicely.

Is that an aluminum body?

Wow! I don't think I've ever seen an aluminum body Coleman anything before.
They are pretty cool and unique. IIRC they were only made for a couple years in the early 60’s. I’ve had a 442 two burner for years, the 443 is the 3 burner model that I thought I would never have.

Well here it is. It cleaned up fairly well. There is some very baked on grease... simple green and Alumabrite didn't touch it. Way better than it was... but it'll never be perfect...so I'll probably leave it like this.

You'll notice that it's running on propane. That's because the eBay seller did not disclose a hole in the fuel tank. I poked at it a little and made it bigger but it was about 1/8" wide to start with... OBVIOUSLY not going to hold any pressure... yet a cut & paste from the ad: "All three burners light and burn." I'm a little annoyed but it's not the first time I need to find parts... my 2 burner aluminum stove was a mess too, that one almost burned my shop down. Supposedly I need fuel tank from a 426B or 426C (or another 443...) anyone?

In other news I also scored this nice 425D for almost nothing, was very dirty but cleaned up well. I like this model a lot since it is a unique one with the red fold up legs and they were only made for a couple years. I already have one of these... if anyone is interested I could be persuaded to let this one go.

Lastly I got this 414 dual fuel stove. Don't let it deceive you, it's not in great shape. It was $15 with a gallon of fuel, and full of mouse poo and dirt. These are really kind of crummy stoves... just very cheap feeling, thin sheet metal. Works great though and cleaned up OK. I don't have one and maybe it should be the big brother of my little dual fuel stove. Or just a good beater truck stove... I dunno yet.
