Coleman Liquid Fuel

The army in Korea was probably using leftover WWII stuff, and maybe WWI. Doubt the units in the rear got anything good!

I'm sure the prop department just grabbed random junk to fill shelves with. Those are way too shiny and new looking for soldiers to have been using.

I about guarantee those were new off the shelf (late 70's/early 80's) when the show was made. The show was cancelled about the same time Coleman went to the darker green (around '83)

The sides were a lot different on the newer ones (aka cheaper to make)

This is a 1960's one.

The ones on MASH look to have sharper edges and for sure a thinner lid.

As far as it being unlikely for them to have new stuff in Korea... don't doubt Radar!

Don't doubt Radar or Klinger (later episodes).

This thread has been an interesting read. I myself do have a few newer coleman dual fuel lanterns that I got at Walmart about a decade ago, in addition to several propane Coleman and Primus lanterns.

Most of the lanterns I come across by me are either very expensive, or extremely poor condition (rusted out tank), but after reading, I think I will start looking a little harder.

I also may try out my Northstar lantern this spring / summer.

Picked up an extra stove today for $15. 425E dated 5/70. Should clean up ok. There's a little surface rust on the back. I'll oil the leather and try it out tomorrow.

I keep getting skunked.

I inquired about what I thought was a 290 with a case today, never heard back. Later I had the idea to do a screen shot and zoom in, I think it is another 288 so not a big loss.

Also lost out on a new Jerry can and a wire welder, just not having good luck since my pickup box.

I am kinda going away from stoves unless I find a 426 cheap, a really nice 84/85 anything (dual fuel would be a neat change of pace) or the little single burners which are scarce around here. My 413 is really spoiling me... And two 425's are enough. I might give dad his back now.

For some stupid reason I am really missing making mac and cheese with my 400...

I almost went to get a 3 burner stove. It was listed at $40. But I would have had 3 hours round trip of driving and gas. Just seemed like that would drive the total invested money too high. I think the 3 burner would be nice at times. There is one locally for $15. But the back is so rusty that there's nothing to hold the cover hinges on. It's just a bottom box. The burners, tank and grate look decent though and it works.

$40-50 seems about average for a nice one. We are going to driving right past a really clean one today they are asking $50 for.

I agree $40 is good. I just wasn't willing to add 132 miles worth of fuel at 16mpg to get it.

I don't blame you, they are around and $40 isn't really a super hot deal.

I gave my CL-1 a workout tonight... cooked some 1/4lb hot dogs on the charcoal grill, make a dutch oven cobbler, and kept warm with the fire pit. Nice night to be out in the cold, it was -1 while cooking and my beer froze in my hand. The fire was VERY welcome.

This is a great time to detour over to the cast iron thread too for details on the cobbler.
