Coleman Liquid Fuel

You should go buy a few mega millions tickets... that is like crazy luck you have going today.
You're right. And the prize is way up there right now, too.

My wife actually spent $10 on tickets... if I become a multi-millionaire, I’ll buy everyone on the forum staff a new Ranger. (Except @85_Ranger4x4 ... you know why!)

What did it need?

I would expect cut brake lines anyway...

Can I at least get a new bucket?

Real good cleaning. I tore apart 3 generators to make one work. New pump leather. The old one worked. But it was disintegrating, would leave particles on my fingers while I was rubbing the neetsfoot oil in. It needs a better cleaning and some new paint. I couldn't get the throttle screw out. Also installed a new filler cap seal.

I'll order some parts soon to build up my spares and have enough to work on the other lantern.

At the end of the job, I got the idea to use Brasso on the tubes that the mantles hang on. Looks nice. But now I need to disassemble and polish the rest of the brass. Interesting thing- the top dome is green on the outside and blue underneath.

What did you use for a filler cap seal? I discovered that my Harbor Freight O-ring kit has one size that is dead nuts on... burn out the old one with a torch, clean up the remains with a wire brush and it's good to go. I used to hate the two piece filler caps but now I kinda like them since I discovered that little trick.

This is a 2-piece cap. I had an extra new seal that I had ordered last year when working on my Sears lantern and stove. The old seal was a mess. It was hard and crumbly and packed in that little groove. I scraped it out with a pick, soaked it in vinegar, scraped some more, wire brush, soak, scrape, etc. Also had to sand the edge of the filler hole smooth and remove some rust.

Try burning it out next time... remove the inner piece with the seal on it and heat it up with a propane torch until the seal crumbles away. Super easy!

+1 for burning.

Not sure about the one piece caps but I haven't had to replace a gasket on one yet.

Gaskets are cheap too.

No new finds, I did run the J out of fuel on grill duty from when I filled it before Indiana.

So on pork chop night as the J was flickering the 200A had to set up to the plate.

And I did get around to test firing the dual fuel, ran great.

And it needs fuel too lol.

I got a box from OCP yesterday. A couple generators, pump leathers, valve, cap seals and the check valve tool in case I ever need it. That should keep things running for a while. I can clean and repair the other lantern I bought a week or two ago.

I bought a Northstar propane lantern on my lunch break today - have to stop by Walmart on my way home and see if they have any of those weird tube mantles. It was cheap, I'll post up some pics when I get it cleaned up. Always thought they were kinda cool since the globe has a wire cage around it, and supposedly they are super bright.

I haven't seen a mantle at wally world for quite awhile.
