Coleman Liquid Fuel

Guessing November of '64.

I've seen a dozen or more two burner Coleman stoves recently for under $20, one was actually $1 but I haven't bought any... my standards are pretty high, if they're gross and greasy I just pass. I missed a really nice 202 lantern the other day for $40 but did score a nice Sears two mantle lantern - will post some pics in a bit, it's a really cool olive drab green color and all it needed was mantles, fired right up.

I probably should have walked but I have been looking for a stand. It looked halfway decent with most of the paint still on it so I took a chance on it.

Its been a dry spell for a project anyway.

I would have bought it for the stand too. I would sure like to have one. Is it pretty sturdy?

No shortage of projects here... you know how it is at my place... I am actually starting to get the stink eye for bringing home more junk. Shocking, I know.

Now that y'all showed me where the date is on the stove, I can tell you it is from 4/65. Not quite a year younger than me. I brought it out in the wild for a couple nights. Found a nice campground near Saluda, NC. Only 40 minutes from home.

You need a blue and yellow chair... then you could be all color matched. I miss camping... I hope it changes in the future.

I got my 508 running and will make my coffee in my new French Press... Not even going to fool with a lantern before the trail ride. Well maybe I might.

I'm in the middle of cleaning out the garage... so the shop is closed to anything that even resembles a project. In fact... I'm getting close to passing the torch to someone new on my Skamper. I'm sure gonna miss it but it just isn't in the long term plan for me. It's time for someone new to enjoy it camping and let it see daylight again. Been stuffed in my garage for 7 years now. I believe this is the only picture I have of it...

Crazy that the only picture I have of it my wife found on google maps... must have been the google car driving by our house doing roadside view stuff that day. That was right after we moved to Illinois... I can tell because I see I just finished painting the garage.

I don't care about being color coordinated. Just got the campfire ready for my hot dogs and it started raining. Going to be a late dinner tonight. Who knows? I've been known to fall asleep pretty fast listening to rain on the tent or camper. May not be any dinner tonight if that happens.

It is pretty sturdy but it is kind of short. Kinda weird how the stove just sits on the two bars across the top too. On the box it shows a tabletop and a cooler also using the stand. It does fold up pretty compact though.

All the work that went into finding a matching tent, stove and lantern and you are going to fall short by not tracking down a chair?

You can't get famous on Instagram that way!

Looking at your stove closer, your whole case is different. The theory is more like my later one but it is stamped totally different.

Yes. I looked at a new one in the store yesterday. It's very different from mine.

Lantern didn't want to light right away. Did almost nothing for the first couple attempts. Then it burned with big yellow sooty flames for half a minute or so. Then it settled down and got right. I don't know. Dad always did the lantern and stove stuff.

It's burning now. I have all kinds of fire.

looks like ya eat tonight!

*and just to be clear I have no shortage of projects, in fact they seem to find me anymore.

This stuff is kind of fun to play with, cheap and kind of simple but can still be somewhat challenging. If I fix it right away or if has to sit awhile the world still turns.

Kind of like a puzzle... but with fire.

I didn't think I needed another stove let alone a two burner but here I am buying one... for a dollar 😂 seriously, half off price sale at one of the thrift stores, it was marked $2. And the little guy works pretty good, just needed some pump love. The tank was even clean and it fired right up. Made in '70 it appears. It's pretty dirty but not disgusting, probably will use some degreaser on it and make it my dedicated porch cooking stove.

What kind of degreaser do you use that won’t hurt the paint?

As usual the Sears stuff cool.

That olive green sears lantern looks like a beauty!
