Coleman Liquid Fuel

What kind of degreaser do you use that won’t hurt the paint?

I'm going to try some of this on it. I got two cans on clearance at Wally World just cuz impulse buys and I'm kinda impressed - doesn't stink and it actually works as well or better than most of the engine degreasers I've used. I will report back with results.

Crap keeps finding me...

I had mentioned the last time we went camping it would be nice to get the next size bigger stove so we could have two skillets on it at a time (or a skillet and our half size griddle)

I was trying to be good and avoid the evil temptress known as "marketplace" since I just got a stove and we have a road trip coming up.

So of course my wife sends me this:

It is a old 413G, kind of uncommon around here. The bigger two burner model, made 5-70.

So of course we work out a deal, they leave it on the deck and I leave the money under a rock because that is how we do business now and I leave with my new wifey approved treasure.

Needs cleaned but it should dust off pretty nicely.

And this one even runs without doing a thing to it!

My old 425E on top for a size comparison:

There’s a 3 burner for sale by me. $25

Yeah, those come up from time to time, usually around $50. I wouldn't mind snagging one if I find one cheap and close.

Dad had one but somehow a guy he had clean out a shed scrapped it although he was told to leave it. When I got interested in this stuff dad tore the shed apart trying to find it and it isn't there.

I don't "need" anymore stoves, especially the big bulky ones. I would like a three burner and I would like a minty perfect one the same month/year (2-85) as my truck to go with my CL2 lantern and truck though.

Nice! You'll like the 413. I love mine, it's one of the older ones with a towel rack and adjustable feet (413E I think.)

I can't see myself keeping many more stoves... unless I run across some older ones. I'd trade out my 3 burner for an older 3 burner if I happened to run across one. Might make an exception for more single burner stoves though... they don't take up a lot of space.

The little stoves are pretty cool, I really like the one I have now that it works.

That said, aside from its twin at the garage sale I have bought every one of them I have seen... for a grand total of 1.

The degreaser worked fairly well... on greasy spots... not on baked on food. I bought another stove yesterday, this time a two burner propane Coleman for $4. Hit it with the degreaser too. Both of them had to be scrubbed out afterwards with soap and water, I just completely disassembled both stoves. Degreaser did not hurt the paint at all.

I scored a 413G stove (for free!!!!) from the thrift store yesterday. Quite rusty and very dirty but the tank is surprisingly clean. I may leave it out in the sun to warm up and then hit it with some oven cleaner... I have nothing to lose.

Man... you guys are killing me with this stuff. I'm trying to thin down my collection but I so enjoy the thrill of the hunt for these things. Well all old things...

I haven't stopped at a thrift store or garage sale for what feels like ever!

Must resist the temptations!!!

I have yet to see anything in a thrift store period. The only stuff I found at a garage sale was my newest 425, 400B and 220J. Otherwise Facebook Marketplace is my kryptonite.

I did find a cool looking model 500 stove in Boone... which is like 4 hours away for $15 yesterday. 'tis gone already. :fie:

I had to research if it was even Coleman because of course they didn't say in the ad. They are kinda crazy looking compared to the 502/508

Like this but with less paint.

I so need to downsize... no ifs ands or buts about it.

Just think of all the room you have been making in your garage lately though!

I have made a bit of room... but what was left of the antique shop in the garage went to the basement. So I kinda feel like at this point I'm just moving junk from one place to another.

I seriously need to just get some of this stuff listed on a couple of these selling sites... but I really don't want people coming to the house. I know a few other antique dealers... I've been dropping the word with some that I'm selling... but the virus and the fact nobody seems to have money for inventory... kinda been a bust.

I cleaned up my free beater stove... it sure was gross. Grease and burned food everywhere. I hit it with oven cleaner - do NOT do this if you care about your paint. Basically every grease spot is now bare metal. Not too concerned, it fired right up and runs great. I will probably just sell it for a $20 bill to someone who needs a truck stove.
