Hi everyone.
My question is about my 99 ranger 4.0, i'm getting a cold start clatter. It happens just for a second until the oil pumps up. But it kills me to hear every morning. Truck has 140,000 and runs like a champ, oil changed every 3000. I run ( 10/30). does anyone else have this prob.

Change your filter and see if the one you have now is allowing oil to backflow into the crankcase..

Are you using a Fram oil filter? They are known to cause your symptoms.

I am having the exact same issue! I was actually gonna post this same Q.... I tried a different filter and no dice.. still has "starved main bearing" sound at start up. Also a 99 4.0L OHV

Hey thank you for the replys
The first thing i did was change the filter, i had a motorcraft on it. then switched it to a fram. Not as bad with the fram, but still hear it when the truck sits over night or for a period of time. Maybe something better like a K&n filter or wix.
