cold air intake

You want some cold air? Drill some holes in the front of your air box. A K&N isn't going to do squat. Save your money.

Dyno sheets or GTFO.

I'm sorry, any "slight difference" and the "engine runs freer" is probably just psychosomatic.

Suit yourself. I never dyno-ed this engine.

If the filters didn't work, how have they been able to sell so many? They don't have the marketing power of Microsoft...

scott b, ummmm there is a ton of adds everywhere and its because all the ppl that buy them are usually ricers and ppl that think k&n is top of the line, which it isnt cause u can get a basic no name cone filter and it will work the same, maybe even better.

What is restrictive about the factory tubing........

Nothing.
CAI kits are a huge waste of money on rangers. And many other vehicles.
Just get a better filter.

What I mean by "restrictive" are the resonance chambers that are filled with air before it makes its way to the throttle body. I like the filter better when compared to the K&N.

Never mind. Apparently True Flow is no longer in business or at least their website is not and has not been working for a while. So my argument is invalid.

The thing I don't like about oiled filters is they depend on crud to filter. The only way they can move more air as they claim is to have bigger holes, they show right on the box that they use stuff getting stuck to the element to make the holes smaller to filter better (or at least they did 10 years ago when I bought one for a car) As a side note I wonder what that does for air flow?

I got a K&N drop in last year or the year before for Christmas for my dd, when I lived in town it wasn't a big deal but after I bought a house on a gravel road it was replaced by a paper Wix.

The 93-97 (at least my 94 does) have a cold air intake from the factory. But they also have a hot air intake coming off the block. If you rip that POS off you now have a factory CAI. Whalla.

fritz u are correct but it is also on 91-92 expos 84-90 b2s and rangers if im correct

That helps the engine warm up, once up to temp it should close off and be a CAI.

My 2.8 had the same thing, it pulled from beside the radiator so it might have been a "ram air cold air intake"

Not to stir things up,but I would like to throw my two cents in if I may . I took a 3 inch hole saw and drilled through the bottom of the airbox and into wheel well plastic piece then put in a pvc 2 inch shower drain and added a 45 degree elbow pointed to the front . I have a K\N filter in there before I started

Had one of those on my 2.0...took it out and just deal with the warm up issues...but the block heater helps to eliminate most of that...

It takes about 10 minutes to warm up now. I'm not sure about before, because that was in the summer. Haven't had the truck a year yet.

I used to give the 2.3l about 10 minutes to warm up, too.

Tis good on a pavement pounder.
Wouldn't be smart on a truck that sees Offroad. I imagine water would splash up there quite easily.

Because, and I firmly believe this to the core of my being, 95% of Americans are F***ing stupid.
